Bob Marley family launches Marley Natural, world’s 1st global marijuana brand

The  name and spirit of reggae great and humanitarian Bob Marley lives on thanks to a new product from the Marley family in what can only be described as the world’s first global marijuana brand. The product line is called Marley Natural and includes marijuana based lotions, creams and other accessories. The product is being marketed to be sold in the U.S. and worldwide starting next year.

Marley’s daughter, Cedella Marley, stated “My dad would be so happy to see people understanding the healing power of the  herb … Marley Natural is an authentic way to honor his legacy by adding his voice to the conversation about cannabis and helping end the social harms caused by prohibition.” The product is being sold in cooperation with Washington state based Privateer Holdings, a private equity firm that “uses strategic investments in the cannabis industry to acquire and create mainstream brands.” The president of the company, Brendan Kennedy said, “It was just a natural fit between Bob Marley and this product. You know if you were to look for the most famous human being who ever walked the face of the earth related to cannabis, it would be Bob Marley.”

Throughout his life and career, Bob Marley was an avid pot smoker and advocate for its use. Marley is quoted as saying “When you smoke weed, you are revealed to yourself” and his widow, Rita Marley, is totally behind the product and active in its branding, She stated, “My husband believed herb was a natural, and he felt it was important to the world. He looked forward to this day.”

Brendan Kennedy, Yale graduate and the CEO of Privateer Holdings, which owns Marley Natural and plans to run it out of a loft space on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, says “The American cannabis industry is about a $50 billion industry.”
