Obviously u stopped reading, because in the next sentence I said carr is clearly our best QB.

I was speaking of mcgloin prior to this game, I wanted him to start. After last nights game is clear that Carr is ready to start

i've probably said this like 10 times in the past 13 or so years and been burned every time, but i feel like the raiders finally might have a little depth and talent. i know one thing: the jets suck a dick, and if the raiders don't screw themselves, they should start out 1-0. regardless of who is at qb, i really hope it isn't the human pick 6 machine schaub though

Yeah not thrilled bout the OC but it could be worse(knapp)

I hope carr has a good game and the oline keeps him upright and they come out with the W. We don't need Carrs confidence to take a hit this early in his career.

Start The Carr!

The Oakland Raiders have named rookie Derek Carr their starting quarterback, the team's 18th different starting signal caller since 2003.

Carr will get the nod over veteran Matt Schaub, who is playing his first season in Oakland after spending the past seven seasons starting for the Houston Texans.

"Not an indictment on Matt Schaub, Derek Carr is mature beyond his years," coach Dennis Allen said after Monday's practice. "We feel very comfortable with him helping us win football games. ... Derek is the starting quarterback."

Carr, a second-round pick from Fresno State, completed of 11 of 13 passes for 143 yards and three touchdowns, including two one-play touchdown passes in a 41-31 win over the Seattle Seahawks in the preseason finale for both.

Wide receiver Rod Streater, who has played with seven previous Raiders starting quarterbacks since his rookie season of 2012, praised Carr for what he's done so far.

"He has been really consistent," Streater said. "He keeps getting better."

Carr Latest Off The Assembly Line
The Raiders have used eight of their picks in the last three drafts to acquire seven different quarterbacks by either selection or trade.

Year, Rd QB Acquired
'14, 2nd Derek Carr Draft
'14, 5th Matt Flynn Trade
'14, 6th Matt Schaub Trade
'13, 2nd Carson Palmer Trade
'13, 4th Tyler Wilson Draft
'12, 1st Carson Palmer Trade
'12, 3rd Terrelle Pryor Supp. Draft
'12, 4th J. Campbell Trade

"Derek has grown [by] leaps and bounds," Allen said. "He is ready to accept the challenge."

Both quarterbacks have been banged up this preseason, with Carr suffering a concussion and a rib injury in one game and Schaub dealing with what the team has called a minor elbow issue.

Allen has said he wanted to wait to see how Schaub felt Monday before naming a starting a quarterback.

"Matt is disappointed but he has handled it like a pro," Allen said.

Schaub last played in the team's third preseason game where he went 13-for-27 and threw for 110 yards in a 31-21 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Schaub will be Carr's backup with Matt McGloin serving as the team's third-string quarterback. McGloin threw eight touchdowns and eight interceptions in seven games last season for the Raiders.

Carr is slated to be the only rookie quarterback to start Week 1. The Raiders open the season Sunday at the New York Jets.

IDK too much about the Raiders, but after watching Carr play for 3 years at Fresno State, all I am worried about is his O-line. Carr gets hot headed way too easily, and one sack/aggressive pressure tends to fuck with his decisions throughout the whole game. See his highlights vs Cal, SMU, and USC-LV Bowl. Cal was his first year as a starter, SMU his second and USC his third.
