Leonard Ellerbe, CEO for Mayweather Promotions, says a possible May clash with WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao will be an easy fight for Floyd Mayweather Jr. Both sides are expected to begin negotiations this week. Ellerbe believes that Pacquiao will get outboxed in the same manner as the two fights with Juan Manuel Marquez and the first meeting with Erik Morales. Ellerbe denied any and all reports of Mayweather taking any type of tuneup fight. He says Mayweather will march straight to a fight with Pacquiao or face the winner of the January 30 bout between Andre Berto and Shane Mosley.

“[It] probably will be one of Floyd’s easier fights. They say styles make fights but guess what? Skills are what win fights,” Ellerbe said to the Grand Rapids Press. “The fight is not a problem in the ring. Pacquiao is a good little fighter but Floyd is just on a whole other level. If we can make a deal, we’ll see. If he got outboxed by Erik Morales, if he got outboxed by Juan Manuel Marquez, how the hell is going to deal with Floyd Mayweather? He’s never, ever, been in the ring with anyone who has anywhere near the skills Floyd Mayweather has.”

Ellerbe says the public and the media is overhyping Pacquiao. He wants them to remember the historical comparisons after Mayweather wins the fight.

“People can put things in your mind and make you think you’re something you’re not,” Ellerbe said. “It was interesting to me, after the Pacquiao-Cotto fight, to hear journalists comparing Pacquiao to the likes of Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali. I want those same journalists to remember those words after the next fight, if a deal can be struck and this fight comes off.”

We will see.

Neither fighter has been in the ring with a fighter of the caliber of the other, or a style similar to the other.

Floyd will not have a speed advantage in this fight like he usually does.

Its interesting to see if Floyd's defensive style will work against Manny's unorthadox offensive attack.

I think that if Manny can get Floyd to fight, which I think is possible, being that Floyd is the bigger man, and might have something he wants to prove...then its advantage Manny.

Should be interesting to see, because Floyd can't afford to take it easy in the early rounds and turn in up in the second half of the fight like he has been doing. Manny isn't going to take any rounds off, and I don't think that Floyd has the power to keep Manny off of him.

Plus, Freddie Roach knows Floyd well, and Roach knows how to set a masterful game plan.

You've got good points Morebass, but when they step in the ring all of that goes out of the window. They know Manny is going to press, so get ready to see Manny get counter punched. He's going to get knocked down at least once....

People tend to forget that Mayweather has been in difficult fights before. In fact, I'll go as far as to say he LOST a fight against Castillo.

Mayweahter isn't 28 years old anymore and I believe he's losing a step. When was the last time the guy through combination punching? Pot-shotting his way for 12 rounds will not work against pacquiao, he's going to have to throw combinations which means he will be more open to be hit. This isn't to say he's going to lose, this at the very least means he's going to have to work harder and get dirty. So that translates to Ellerbe is full of shit - this will be the toughest fight for mayweather in years, win or lose.

And of course Freddie Roach will have a plan. Look what feather fisted and southpaw corley did to floyd:

And another quick hand southpaw fighter zab judah gave floyd major problems for the first four/five rounds of the fight, even knocking floyd down (which the ref didn't see):

(at :33 seconds and again at :50 seconds you can clearly see mayweather getting hit and his hand going to the canvas to hold him up aka knock down)

What does this prove? Mayweather has had a bit of problems with fast southpaws in the past.

I know what you're saying but Mayweather is better now. Fast south paws do/did give him trouble but Manny shouldn't be that much of a problem for Money Mayweather because he's gotten better.

Zab was ahead and could/should/would of won that fight but he gets gassed like Jermaine Taylor.

So you can say floyd got better since then but pacquiao hasn't???!? Clearly pac keeps improving. Has floyd? I don't know, imo he's not as good as he was at 130.

@heyzel,

if floyd put on a "boxing clinic" in the rematch against castillo then why were the scorecards:

Ken Morita 115-113
Larry O'Connell 116-113
Daniel Van de Wiele 115-113

Those aren't the scores of a boxing clinic!

Floyd won the rematch no doubt about it but it wasn't an easy task by any means. In other words floyd always had problems with castillo.

^^^ you took that back about 6 years, I think Castillo won that fight also but how many losses Manny have and should have 2 more losses from Marquez.

2 of Pacquiao's losses came from when he was a 17 years old and again when he was 20. Funny thing is Mayweather lost 6 times when he was that old. The difference was Pacquiao was poor as shit and had to turn pro as a teenager to feed his family while floyd had the luxury of fighting in the amateurs and the Olympics. But just for shits & giggles if Mayweather turned pro at the same age his record would be approximately 65-6.

And no, manny should not have 2 more losses against Marquez. In fact, the first fight one of the judges scored the first round incorrectly and later admitted that, which would have gave manny the victory. The 2nd fight was close but I still had pac winning the knockdown was the difference in that fight imo. Marquez should learn how to stay on his feet.
