By: Coach “K”- The Manny Pacquiao / Floyd “Money” Mayweather upcoming mega fight only in the preliminary stages of negotiations has already hits its full compliment of the usual Mayweather games.

Mayweather has begun his soon to be an arms length list of demands for him to enter the ring with Manny Pacquiao. Is it a psychological ploy or is “Money” again setting the table. Or in this case with Pacquiao’s ever growing support could it be a tiny crack in the Mayweather armor..

Just recent history shows how Mayweather will use his gigantic draw to influence all the tactical and minor aspects of his fight contracts. In his last outing he set the required weight limits forcing Marquez to move up almost two full weight classes then didn’t make the weight himself. Some see that as a minor issue as Marquez received $600,000 to take the fight. You must forget the fact that Marquez took the money, he is a fighter, he already trained in a full training camp one that Mayweather extended due to an alleged injury. There was also people who needed to be paid and as a fighter he came to fight but the truth is he was set up.

The weight played to Mayweather’s advantage big time and it was obvious the minute the two entered the ring. Putting that aside, Mayweather should have been substantially fined as well as pay Marquez. The money paid to Marquez for all practical purposes was found money not Mayweather’s. If the fight doesn’t happen there is no pay day and Mayweather would have been the cause of the cancellation. Why wasn’t Mayweather forced to jump rope, hit the sauna just loose the weight. Add to the fact he refused to release his weight.

Now here we go déjà vu all over again. According to several sources Floyd Mayweather, Jr. has again threatened to pull out of his March 13th mega fight with Manny Pacquiao over weight issues. Rumors are that Mayweather wants a bigger leeway in the maximum weight and bigger gloves. This is the type of thing that drives boxing purists insane. Boxing has added junior weight classes, fights at catch weights on top of the 24hr weigh in policy and now even a Diamond Belt for so called catch weight championships. What’s next?

This brings to mind the Leonard / Hagler 1987 championship fight still hotly debated today. Years after the fight Leonard in an interview basically admitted the fight was won in the negotiations. Hagler was paid to agree to a bigger the ring, bigger gloves and the shorter distance down from fifteen rounds to twelve. Leonard the declared winner felt he won the close controversial decision but was honest enough to admit that if he didn’t get any one of those concessions the fight may have gone differently. Add to that now inspired by a claim from Floyd Mayweather Sr. that Pacquiao is on steroids team Mayweather now wants Olympic style drug testing.

Most feel that “Money” Mayweather has always made the better business moves like facing Baldomir instead of Margarito since the money was close. Looking back now was it money, doubt, money versus risk or a tilted scale? Risk part of the ground roots draw in boxing and something that Mayweather does not want in the ring and that is the cause of all his negotiations. Most fighters ranked or not would step in to fight Mayweather just looking for a big pay day but Mayweather still needing a recognizable name. It’s when he gets it that all the scale tipping, risk minimizing starts.

But what were talking about here is champions, the best pound for pound, not just the fight everyone wants to see. What good is the man on man, one on one draw if there is always a negotiated variable? If there was ever was a case for regulation or even just some standardization, its now. Let’s get rid of the days where a fighter wins the welterweight title weighing 160lbs, fighters wearing different gloves and all the other variables. Lets see one belt and one set of rules that’s how you measure the best.

Boxing sometimes referred to as the “sweet science” is anything but a science. In science all studies are made with a means, a basis, a standard for comparison, boxing no longer has that. We might as well be comparing apples and oranges.

I understand it’s a business but it is the fans that pay the bills, just give us a straight up fair fight. Who would go to a Yankee game if when a power team comes to town they move out the fences. Or if a speed team comes in they move the bases to 100 feet. Why do we allow the fighters to tip the scales? We don’t allow it in any other sport.

In a sport where toughness is a favorable trait and the idea of adapting and overcoming is a virtue. Why do we allow the Mayweather’s to shift the scales? All we want is a fair fight. Maybe the occasional upset, you know rooting for the underdog, Rocky wouldn’t have had a chance in a 24ft ring, 12ounce gloves and a ten round fight. Using the Mayweather mind set, what was Apollo thinking?

Manny, do boxing a favor! You hold the trump card. Take the tests it will only solidify you as one of boxing’s greatest in and out of the ring but please stand your ground on all Mayweather’s other nonsense.

If it’s about the money, Mayweather will eventually come around he needs Pacquiao more than the “Pacman” needs him. Like many I’d go see a Pacquiao / Mosley fight both are true fighters and champions always taking on the best ducking no one. A Mosley / Mayweather fight won’t ever happen unless Mayweather negotiates “the fight” out fit. He will take on a lesser opponent or make someone else move up just like his choice of Baldomir over Margarito.

As far as it being a crack in the Mayweather armor, only the fight will tell. But if there is anything that will bring a fighter down it’s doubt. Is the questioning about steroids a fear, a doubt, a ploy? I see all this usual negotiation crap an attempt to erase some doubt by tilting the scales. If Manny really wants to plant some doubt fight under the standard sanctioning body rules winner takes all if there’s a crack you’ll see it!

Well, they put a lot of the shit on Floyd when in reality...most of this nonsense is coming from his gay lover Leonard Elerbee and Al Haymon.

For some reason, they seem to think that everyone needs Floyd Mayweather...which in this fight...obviously, he is needed, but beyond this fight he really doesn't have much on the horizon besides a fight with the Berto-Mosley winner.

Pacquiao on the other hand truly does hold the trump card, as the author stated.

Yeah, I think Floyd is playing mind games, trying to get in Manny's/Roach's head. They know Manny ain't on no roids or he would have been busted by now (but then maybe not, because Sugar Shane got away with it until someone snitched on him). So maybe they feel that Manny is taking some kind of performance enhancer. Maybe the Mayweather's don't want Manny walking through Floyd's punches.

If Manny is clean then he shouldn't trip. Just take the test(s) and prepare to fight.

Everyone is acting like Floyd is obligated to take this fight. He never approached anyone. It's everyone else coming to him. You can't bug someone to fight and then tell him what rules he has to fight under.

If someone kept asking me to do something, I would say "OK, but under these circumstances". If they don't want to meet them then they can kick rocks because I'm not the one knocking on their door.

If Floyd was chasing Manny then it would be different, he would have to oblige to their rules. It's the other way around, so they need to listen to him or go find someone else.

He wants bigger gloves. From what I understand they already settled on the glove issue, but him asking for bigger gloves would give him a major advantage in the fight. Smaller gloves would put him at a disadvantage.

He wants higher weight. Once again, his advantage.

What is he supposed to do? Go in with 8oz gloves, risk being slaughtered, and eat ice chips so he can make 147?

Coming from a Floyd hater, but people really need to get off his back.

My opinion anyways.

Yeah, I see what you're saying....but Floyd definitely needs this fight more than Manny does.

Not money wise...but career wise.

He doesn't really have very many options on his horizon that are big enough to satisfy his ego. Maybe the winner of Berto-Mosley....but that's it.

I know its all posturing for the fight, but c'mon man...I still don't even consider Manny a true welterweight...at most he's a blown up jr. welterweight, in terms of stature.

And Floyd wants him to move up to 154.

Shit, Manny weighs 154 with his Wapakman suit on.

People need to relax, Floyd is just playing mind games. He wants this fight so he can silence the critics. Manny is pound for pound number 1 so if Floyd beats Manny then Floyd will become pound for pound number 1. He wants this fight pretty bad too.

On a side note: I think Sugar Shane would knock Manny out. I think Manny has a better chance at defeating Mayweather than Shane, because Shane will trade shots.

Roach Talks Pacquiao/Steroids, Mayweather/Weight,

By Rick Reeno

On Wednesday night in New York, BoxingScene.com traveled down to BB King's Blues Club & Grill in the heart of Times Square, and sat down with Freddie Roach in the dressing room of Guillermo Rigondeaux, a two-time Olympic gold medal winner. To the surprise of many, Roach flew in to New York to work the corner of his newest pupil, Rigondeaux of Cuba. Roach predicted big things for Manny Pacquiao. They happened. He predicted big things for Amir Khan. They happened. Roach predicts big things for Rigondeaux. In a year or two, Roach thinks his fighter will become a champion like Pacquiao and Khan.

Roach was more than willing to discuss the ongoing negotiations for Pacquiao's March 13 super-fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. He cleared up a lot of the rumors and touched on several of the important issues that are hanging over the bout. The most important issue to Roach is the weight. He won't let Pacquiao "get abused" like Juan Manuel Marquez, who received $600,000 when Mayweather was unable to make the agreed catch-weight for their fight a few months ago. Roach and Pacquiao will not agree to any money, they will simply walk away.

"147 is the weight. They are fighting for Manny's title at 147. I'm tired of guys signing the contracts and not living by them. If he signs a contract at 147, that's the weight we are fighting at. We are fighting for the welterweight title. We are not fighting at super welterweight. We agreed to 8oz Reyes gloves, for us. He wore Reyes in his last fight so I would assume that he would wear them again," Roach told BoxingScene.com.

The two sides agreed to Olympic-style drug testing. But Roach is not going to allow his fighter to be subjected to blood tests a few weeks before the fight. Roach was visibly upset when discussing the allegations that are being made by Floyd Mayweather Sr. In what has become a very hot topic of debate, Floyd Sr. has accused Pacquiao of using illegal drugs.

"Nevada is a great commission. They have drug testing that is sufficient. The issue I have is this, I will not let anyone take blood out of Manny Pacquiao six-weeks before a fight because that will mentally affect him. If they want a urine test or something else. Olympic-style drug testing, they do urine tests. I have no problem with that," Roach said.

"Mayweather Sr, did he even finish high school? He's an expert on drugs now. He went to jail for drug dealing but he's not an expert on drugs."

Roach usually has some wild predictions when it comes to a Manny Pacquiao fight. Sometimes those predictions come true. When it comes to Mayweather, Roach is realistic. He doesn't see Pacquiao knocking Mayweather out. He doesn't see an easy fight.

"I think it's going to be a tough fight for both guys. I think Pacquiao will win a twelve round decision. I think we have our work cut for us. The last four or five fights, we fought guys who come for you and try to destroy you. Now we are fighting the complete opposite. A guy who moves away, very defensive. We are going to set traps. We are going to stay away from Mayweather's traps because he's very smart. It's a very tactical fight," Roach said.

"That's why I want to start camp early. A month in Baguio, a month in LA and then the final week in Vegas. [We will start] as soon as the press conference is over. Bob [Arum] tells me there will be one press conference in New York. As soon as that's over, we will get started around the 5th or 6th [of January]."

The venue has not been set. The MGM Grand in Las Vegas and Texas' Cowboys Stadium are both in the running. Roach doesn't see the fight heading anywhere but Vegas.

"I think it's a Vegas fight. I don't think Mayweather will fight in Texas. Texas has been known for bad decisions, as some people have said. I love Texas. That's where we beat [Marco Antonio] Barrera, so I have no problem with it. I don't see Mayweather fighting anywhere but Vegas," Roach said. "Vegas has had some bad decisions too. It's part of boxing. I think the referee is real important in this fight."

In the past few days, there have been some heated comments between Roach and Floyd's trainer/uncle Roger Mayweather. Roach actually challenged Roger to a steet fight over some comments that Roger made about hall-of-fame trainer Eddie Futch, who was a mentor and father figure to Freddie.

"Roger is an @sshole. I hate that son of a b*tch. He talks bad about my trainer Mr. Futch and he downgrades a person who can't defend himself. He's a piece of sh*t," Roach said.

Roach couldn't hold back his laughter when discussing the critics who claim Pacquiao has avoided top-level African American opponents.

"Well, we're about to fight one so we'll see. The best guys out there we've fought, without prejudice. Manny Pacquiao loves God and loves every person in the world," Roach said.

People need to come to reality floyd is 40-0.... Pac-man is a great fighter one of the best right now. Pac-man only has the peoples support right now cause he was fighting the best pound for pound when floyd was in retirement. To be honest floyd jumped in the ring with everybody they said he was dodging before he retired. Sugar shane said he didn't wont to fight floyd not the other way around. What's funny is nobody is on floyd side every time. They are picking him to get beat but he always comes out on top. I think he likes it that way,it gives him something to prove and keeps him on his toes. Floyd might act like an ass in front of the media just like ali did and all the other greats did but he stay on his A game. This fight is going to be great and Im picking mayweather to win. I don't think it's going to be easy but I know he will get the win
