OSCAR DE LA HOYA BREAKS SILENCE ON RICHARD SCHAEFER, COLD WAR, BOB ARUM, AND MORE

OSCAR DE LA HOYA BREAKS SILENCE ON RICHARD SCHAEFER, COLD WAR, BOB ARUM, AND MORE

"I have no problem with Bob Arum. There's always a solution; in anything, there's always a solution. Like I said, I met with Bob Arum to bury the hatchet and down the road, down the line, why not? For the sake of boxing, for the sake of the sport, there's a lot of great fights that can be made," stated Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya, who held a press conference to clarify his relationship with Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, his recent meeting with Bob Arum, the future of the sport, and much more. Though De La Hoya made it clear that Richard Schaefer is still the CEO of his company and, on paper, he still expects him to be for several years to come, he also clarified his strong desire to end the Cold War with rival promotional company Top Rank.

"We don't have to be married. We don't have to merge. We don't have to hold hands. We don't have to try and work out where everybody just works happily together. No, we don't have to do that, but there's ways of making fights happen, and that's what I want to figure out and make happen," De La Hoya explained. "What matters the most to me now; right now? Okay, obviously my family, but this company. Boxing! That's what matters to me the most behind my family. The fans. They want to see great fights, you know. This is important to me

Remember when Nelly had a lil mini concert before a Pacquiao fight? Can't remember if that was the Clottey or Margarito fight. God that was awkward. Pure silence from the crowd.
It was Margarito and it was super gay. But I know fools that went and they said the crowd was going crazy, you just couldn't hear that on tv. It was still gay.

Khan: Maybe my religious beliefs gives Mayweather an excuse not to fight me

Mayweather Khan Mayweather vs. Khan floyd mayweather jr amir khan By Scott Gilfoid: WBC Silver welterweight champion Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KO’s) took himself out of the running for WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr’s next fight in September by announcing at last Saturday’s post-fight press conference that there’s no way that he can fight Mayweather in September due to Ramadan.

Khan then went on to say that Mayweather can always move off of his preset September 13th fight date in order to fight him in November or December. Now Khan is implying that Mayweather is using his religious commitment as an excuse not to fight him this year.

It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me for Mayweather to move off of his September 13th date, which he picked in order to take advantage of the Mexican Independence Day holiday weekend, in order to fight Khan in November or December. Mayweather will get a huge amount of Mexican fans to purchase his September 13th fight on pay-per-view if he stays on that date. If he moves from the date, he’ll likely bring in far less than 1 million buys to fight someone like Khan, who doesn’t have a huge fan base in the United States. Khan is popular in the UK and places like Asia, but in the U.S, he still doesn’t fill seats or bring in the huge ratings.

“Maybe my fasting gives Floyd the excuse he has been looking for not to fight me,” Khan said. “Even when the fans’ poll over who he should fight went in my favour, he still didn’t fight me. Maybe my religious beliefs give Floyd an excuse not to fight me. If he offers the fight in September, he knows it will get turned down. That way he could turn round and say Amir Khan did not want the fight. They’re aware of all this, so why can’t they wait a couple of months?”

Gee, that almost sounds like Khan has a sense of entitlement that he deserves the fight against Mayweather, doesn’t it? Why should Mayweather move off his date to accomodate Khan if he can’t fight when Mayweather, the A-side, already has a scheduled date. There’s nothing golden about fighting Khan in November, December or whenever. The American public isn’t pushing for a Khan-Mayweather fight. The fight the American public wants to see is Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao, and even the interest in that fight has pretty much deteriorated due to public weariness at the fight not having been made.

With Khan unavailable to fight in September of every year due to Ramadan, it gives him only one shot at getting a fight against Mayweather and that’s in May during the Cinco de Mayo holiday weekend that Mayweather tends to fight on. Khan’s best – and likely last chance – to get a fight against Mayweather is in May of 2015. However, Khan really needs to step up the level of his opposition to earn the fight against Mayweather, because beating Luis Collazo is hardly a big enough fight to earn a fight against a super star like Mayweather.

Khan needs to fight either Shawn Porter or Keith Thurman, preferably both, and prove that he can beat them. If Khan can pass both of those tests without getting knocked out cold or disqualified for holding, shoving or pulling down on his opponent’s necks, then he will have proven that he deserves the fight against Mayweather. But as of right now, Khan has still won only 3 out of his last 5 fights and that’s not good. A 3-2 record doesn’t put you in a Mayweather fight, or at least it shouldn’t. Khan needs to prove that he can beat young fighters like Thurman and Porter before he gets a fight against Mayweather.

I don't see why Floyd always has to hijack Mexican holiday's especially since he isn't fighting Mexicans anymore. Canelo, Chavez and the likes should be fighting on those dates. Mexican independence day has fuck all to do with Mayweather vs Khan/Maidana.

On this past PPV they only had two Mexicans both were b-side fighters in Molina and Periban, neither even remotely popular.

Khan is dumb. Mayweather has been fighting on those two dates for years lol. He acts like all of a sudden that he chose September out of the blue lol. Mayweather is a business man and knows how big the Mexican community loves boxing and he takes advantage of it. Khan isnt a big enough exception to fight on a different date lol. Got Em!!
