James Toney pulled out. Not sure why they were going to be on the same card in fucking Latvia. That's one of then countries you tell me to point to on a globe snd I'm like Ahhhhh somewhere by Poland maybe?? Maybe they were planning on setting up a rematch to prove who is shot to shit more.
I hate the fact that I know this, but the original plan was to have them fight each other and RJJ said there's no point in fight Toney again and he doesn't want to fight at HW. I think he believes he'll be holding a crusierweight title at some point.

Andre Dirrell Parts Ways With 50 Cent: Eyes Aug 1 Return

Courtesy of FightHype

"It was hell," stated super middleweight contender Andre Dirrell, who recently revealed that he has parted ways with his former promoter, 50 Cent. In fact, Dirrell is scheduled to make his return to the ring one week from now at the Little Creek Casino Resort in Shelton, Washington on ESPN's Friday Night Fights card headlined by Thomas Williams Jr. vs. Gabriel Campillo. It will be only the second time in nearly 3 years that Dirrell has fought.

"We didn't end on bad terms. I always kept a respectful tone with him, but the main thing is that my situation was a little too unique with 50 Cent, especially the way he worked his way into the game he made it pretty much hard on himself," Dirrell explained to Eric Woodyard of MLive.com, "I believe he was pretty much being blackballed and the problems that 50 Cent is having trying to get in the game, I pretty much didn't have time for it...I'm trying to get back on my feet as well, so I decided to part ways that way and I did it in a way to stay on good terms."

Dirrell added, "I'm ready to get back in the groove of things real fast and get back in the top rankings...What this did was helped me realize how much this sport means to me and also to respect the sport, so I've become a better fighter mentally outside of the ring and I have a better understanding for the sport since I've been out." Although Dirrell also suggested that he would again be working with Al Haymon, FightHype.com has yet to confirm that he has indeed signed with the influential advisor.

The crackhead's name is Courtney Fry. Who just lost to Nathan King who had an outstanding record of 12-22 lol.

I did find some odds in fact! Per Odds Shark, Jones Jr. is listed as a minus-625 favorite to win the bout.
I'm not supposed to fight due to my neck, but I considered fighting scrubs that had almost no chance of winning to make extra money. There is no law saying that you have to progressively fight better dudes. If I could make another 5-10 grand a year fighting scrubs, that sounds like a good plan to me.

I didn't know Buck Smith posted here and from Oklahoma too. Coincidence???

One of my favorite quotes when someone asked him why was he fighting a bum a month instead of stepping up.. "I'm not fighting one bum a month, I'm fighting three or four."

lol Buck Smith is a LEGEND (of fighting tomato cans). He had a gym here for awhile but it closed down. He does have the dubious distinction of being knocked out by Chavez and Margarito in back to back fights. We trained at the same gym for awhile. He talked like he was this great former champ. He was a terrible trainer from what I remember.

This other clown, that actually fought Buck Smith and lost at one point, used to train at that gym too... Manuel Esparza. I met him after he got out of prison or something, and his dad was always there talking so much crap about how great his son is/was. He always used to say "He's got 19 pro wins!" He was one of those guys that builds up a "record" of fighting nobodies then gets a shot at a name and gets destroyed but makes a decent payday out of it. He was like 20-8-1. He lost to Reggie Strickland of all people, and Buck Smith. He literally lost to every fighter that had a better than .500 record. He fought Edison Miranda and got his nose folded at a 90 degree angle the wrong way and called it a career.

Real shit though I'd be careful unless you're close to a local matchmaker/promoter. They'd put you in with a guy making his debut and tell you how terrible he is when he's their prospect. It's a dirty business.

It's something I've thought about doing but that ship is probably sailed. Promoters are hella shady. A lot of those dudes are just looking for a warm body to get knocked out. That's how a lot of these locals shows are.

My biggest concern was fighting a really dirty fighter that headbutts me to the nose or something getting out of the clinch and not giving a damn if he got DQ'd

Bernard Hopkins plans to buy Joe Frazier’s gym, but with help

Bernard Hopkins has a vision for Joe Frazier’s gym. He calls it, “The Joe Frasier Opportunity Center.”

“Not just boxing, because not every mother wants their child to get hit upside the head for a living,” said Hopkins, who will challenge two more top fighters between 2014 and 2015 in hopes of securing the undisputed light-heavyweight championship of the world — at the age of 50.
Hopkins told Metro that he wants to buy the gym at North Broad Street and Glenwood Avenue, which is partially leased by a discount furniture outfit on the building’s first floor.

“I would want to be able to make a bid for the gym,” he said, “and I will request the city back me as a non-profit to make the gym not only a boxing gym but make it more of a learning center for the youth — learning how to eat, learning karate, learning self defense. It has to be something given to the community, to the youth.”
But Hopkins, who said he is planning his first of the two fights for November against WBO light-heavyweight Champion Sergey Kovalev, said he wants members of the Philadelphia community to pass the collection basket. He’s hoping that when he kicks off the buying process, residents will help contribute to the cost.
The furniture store’s lease will expire in less than a year.
“At the end, I want everybody to say they had a piece of working to restore this historic gym,” Hopkins said. “So later on in life, they can say they played a part in it and whatever is not fulfilled at the end, just like the statue, we’ll come in take it on the back end.”
Golden Boy Promotions and two other Philadelphians put up money for Frazier’s statue, but Hopkins swooped in at the end to pay off the balance. The Frazier statue, which will sit outside Xfinity Live!, will debut in early 2015.
“I got it all in my head,” Hopkins said. “But I’ve had it in my head years ago. But no one can do anything until the lease is over.”
Cautiously aggressive is the plan in pursuing the 20,000 sq. ft. building.
“I hear about Joe Frazier’s gym every week,” Hopkins said. “People say, ‘Yo, Bernard, you should you buy it, you should buy it.’ People don’t know that it ain’t that easy. These are everyday working people, they say, ‘You can just go in your pocket and cut a check,’ but no, it’s a process.”
Frazier moved into the former factory in 1968. The first floor served as his training quarters and the second floor, his apartment. Frazier, who sold the beloved gym in 2008, died in 2011.
The building was named to the National Register of Historic Places in April 2013.
“I’ve really been passionate about it and really been telling people,” Hopkins said, “but not to the point where I leave myself vulnerable to the sharks and the greed of those people who think, ‘Oh, that’s Bernard Hopkins, you know what — let’s just come up with these strange numbers.’ You have to be very careful. You have to be very strategic. You have to take the time. It’s just like dissecting an opponent in the ring, and then you must strike when the time is right.
“That’s how I operate my life,” he added, “In the ring and out of the ring.”
‘Interesting stuff’

The building itself isn’t special. “It’s not an architectural masterpiece,” said Peter Angelides.
Earlier this month, the Urban Land Institute, which studies development issues throughout the region, pulled together a panel to discuss the future of “Smokin’ Joe’s” gym.
Angelides, who co-chaired the panel, said the building is special because of its sentimental civic value. ”It’s the site where interesting stuff happened.”
The panel decided the gym wasn’t attractive as either a full-time gym or a museum. The space, panel members concluded, would best be occupied by a full-time retail store or restaurant that would either hang a plaque or dedicate a wall display inside the building to Frazier’s legacy. Or, they suggested to open it up to a nonprofit.
Hopkins will seek the non-profit status for his vision.
The gym was purchased for $300,000 in 2008. Shortly after the sale, the building went on the market for $1 million.
“I think that somewhere between those two numbers is what you might be able to get it for,” said Richard Huffman, another co-chair of the panel.
Because of its dilapidated condition, the gym will be difficult to renovate, according to the panel’s report.
“It would probably cost more to renovate than to buy,” Angelides said. “Maybe two or three times as much.”

Legacy

“I would want it to be just the way it is,” Hopkins said. “I would want it to be just what Joe Frazier did when I was there — let guys in that couldn’t afford $10 a month and they’d let them train in the gym after the professionals had left.”
The gym was a haven for young men looking for help in controlling and harnessing their aggression.
“I trained there,” he said. “I lost two amateur fights there. Everybody wanted to be at Broad and Glenwood. Everybody wanted to train at Joe Frazier’s gym.”
When fighters from other cities and other groups visited the city, they trained at Joe’s gym. It didn’t matter the weight class, the age range or the experience level — in the 1970s and early 1980s, they all went to see Joe.
“As far as the gym now,” Hopkins said, “Joe Frazier’s name still resides on the building. But it serves as a furniture store and whether it’s high-end or not — which it’s not — it doesn’t really matter. To me, it’s a disrespectful of what this man really stood up for.”

By Miguel Rivera

Top Rank*VP Carl Moretti confirms that his company is still very interested in making a fight between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. of Mexico and WBC/WBA 'regular'*super middleweight champion Carl Froch.

On Monday, Froch's promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, told BoxingScene.com's Shaun Brown that discussions*restarted for*the potential match.

One date being looked at is January 24th in Las Vegas. Moretti stresses that his discussions for Chavez-Froch are still in the very early stages.

"It's what we're talking about, but there is still*a lot of*work to do.*We talked about it*for late January in Las Vegas. But*it was*only a conversation without any agreements*on money,"*Moretti told Carlos Narvaez.

Moretti also labeled inaccurate reports of a Chavez-Miguel Cotto clash for December 6th as being "crazy."

It's a shame that marketability, not skill, desire, work ethic, track record, performance and willingness to take risks is what makes money.

A guy has two belts yet he isn't in the majors because he hasn't been on ppv? Ppv ain't the majors being a pro fighter is and this is a pro fighter with two belts on a mission to do something only those at the peak of their game can do. Unify the belts.

Well it is true, he hasn't been on a PPV card yet.
A match up with Canelo is a much bigger event than Golovkin.

Plus, at the same time you can easily say that Golovkin hasn't fought the best yet. Given that no one wants to fight him. Coming from a fan of his, I can even admit he takes more shots that he really needs to. That's part of being such an aggressive fighter but catching a solid left hook or cross flush from Cotto may not be in his best interest either.

Chavez Sr took a lot of punches too, Thats part of being an aggressive fighter.

I have no problem with Cotto vs Canelo, my issue is if he has no intentions of fighting middleweights he needs to drop his belt and campaign at 154. We don't need 154 and 147 guys fighting each other for the lineal 160 belt. And Thats exactly what is going to happen. Cotto or Canelo, whoever wins will fight Mayweather or whatever big lower weight star. While real middleweights like GGG and Quillin are denied an opportunity.
