They should make Keith Thurman vs Devon Alexander as the co-feature, imo. They need to have someone emerge as a real legit WW contender. I know Alexander has openly said he'll fight Thurman, who seems to have a problem getting good fights so that is also logical. If Thurman wins, that would be a really good name he desperately needs on his resume.

Khan is in a must win situation for the Floyd or Pacquiao sweepstakes.

Rumors were true.

Sam Soliman-Jermain Taylor Set For October 4th

Australia's IBF middleweight world champion Sam Soliman will make his first defence against celebrated fellow veteran Jermain Taylor in early October.

Victorian Soliman, who took the title away from Germany's Felix Sturm earlier this year, will fight former world champion Taylor in a venue to be announced on the United States' East Coast on October 4.

"We came very close to fighting (WBA super world champion) Gennady Golovkin, but this deal was too good to refuse," Soliman's manager David Stanley said.

Taylor, 36, is one of the most distinguished middleweight champions of the past 15 years.

His record of 32-4-1 (20 KOs) included two wins in 2005 over all-time great middleweight Bernard Hopkins.

But his career appeared in decline after he suffered four losses in five fights from 2007 to 2009, all to unbeaten boxers and men who won world titles.

Taylor's career was also threatened when he was diagnosed with a brain bleed and briefly stopped boxing.

However, he has won his past four fights to be ranked 15th by the IBF.

Barthelemy's first title defense is set,

Junior lightweight titlist Rances Barthelemy's first defense will come against Fernando Saucedo on Oct. 4, Warriors Boxing promoter Leon Margules told ESPN.com on Wednesday.

Margules said the fight is signed and that it would likely air on Showtime from a site to be determined. Margules said there is a strong chance that it will take place at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

[+] Enlarge
ESPNRances Barthelemy won a junior lightweight title with a unanimous decision against Argenis Mendez on July 10.

"I think Barthelemy is the best 130-pound fighter in the world and Saucedo is a good boxer, strong and very durable, so he should be a good test for my guy," Margules said. "Saucedo earned his ranking and it's a good test for Barthelemy in his first title defense."

The 28-year-old Barthelemy (20-0, 12 KOs), a Cuban defector living in Miami, won his title via unanimous decision from Argenis Mendez on July 10 in Miami. It was a rematch of the two-round no decision they fought in January, when Barthelemy knocked Mendez out in the second round but the result was eventually changed to a no decision and the title returned to Mendez after his camp protested the outcome because video replays showed that the knockout blow was clearly delivered after the bell had rang to end the round, which was an unintentional foul.

The 32-year-old Saucedo (52-5-3, 8 KOs), of Argentina, is riding a 14-fight winning streak since losing his only other world title fight, a lopsided decision to then-featherweight titlist Chris John in 2010 in John's native Indonesia. The other name fighter on Saucedo's resume is former two-division titleholder Acelino "Popo" Freitas, who dropped and outpointed Saucedo in a 10-rounder in 2004. Saucedo has never been knocked out in any of his five defeats.

"Saucedo is the most talented, available fighter willing to fight Barthelemy that is in the top 15 of the IBF rankings," Margules said. "And he is also the highest available guy, No. 3, so we are fighting him. And top 15 and he was the highest available guy, No. 3."

Margules said another factor in making the fight is that Saucedo is promoted by Sampson Lewkowicz, with whom Margules is close.

"We do a fare amount of business together and he is a friend," Margules said.

Damn another scrub???? Cmon man.........Got Em!!
Highest rank guy available. Not a scrub. OK fight, not great. Plus it's in LA so it makes sense.

Soliman turned down GGG to fight Jermain Taylor and it's looking like it's going to be on ESPN2.

Cotto turned down Golovkin. Rumors are he'll be fighting Andy Lee in December.

Peter Quillin is fighting his mandatory in Korobov (purse bid is on Monday which is interesting since Quillin is promoted by Golden Boy/Al Haymon and Korobov Top Rank).

HASSAN N'DAM N'JIKAM is fighting Curtis Stevens in an ordered fight.

Martin Murray is fighting Spada in October (wtf).

Chavez jr is fighting Carl Froch (it appears).

Andre Ward just filed another lawsuit against Goossen last week and Goossen in rerturn is suing Ward for $10 million dollars. Things are getting nasty. Don't expect Ward to fight this year.

So that leaves Sergio Mora. (Who isn't ranked top 10 at MW). Or some fringe contender at 168 perhaps.

That pretty much leaves Rubio. Top ten guy,Mexican for LA venue. Nothing else for GGG. They obviously wanted Cotto and Chavez jr but both were turned down.

Rubio can beat a lot of guys ranked 8-15 but I almost never expect him to beat guys ranked higher than that. He can punch, but generally I don't think he has any business fighting for a title

Rubio always hangs around the contender area but has came up short in the big fights (Chavez and Pavlik). WYNO707X4 @WYNO707X4 you're thinking of David Lemieux who was 25-0 at the time, and hasn't lost since.

The reason why Rubio was mandatory for the WBC is Chavez never took a drug test after his decision loss to him and he sued the WBC and won, so they reinstated him as #1 challenger. He was paid step aside money by Martinez so he could fight Cotto.

Hearn: Brook can call the shots now; Khan may not like that

shawn porter kell brook amir khan By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn thinks that his fighter IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (33-0, 22 KOs) is now in the position where he can call the shots in terms of a future fight Amir Khan.

Hearn sees the combination Brook having beaten Shawn Porter (24-1-1, 15 KOs) last Saturday night and having won his IBF welterweight title as being enough to put Brook in a position where he’d have the upper hand against Khan in negotiations.

I’m not sure that I agree with that. First of all, Brook having won the IBF title makes him arguably the 4th best of the 4 champions at 147. You have to rate WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr and WBO 147 pound champion Manny Pacquiao ahead of Brook as for being legitimate champions.

Additionally, you have to see WBA interim welterweight champion Keith Thurman as being ahead of Brook as well, because Thurman has looked so invincible thus far. As such, Brook is little more than a paper champion at 147 and not the top #1 or even the top #3 guy.

Brook having a world title loses it’s significance when you realize he’s more of a champion 1D than 1A. It’s the same with the middleweight division with many boxing fans seeing IBF middleweight champion Sam Soliman as a paper champion. Besides that, Brook’s win over Porter was a controversial decision in the eyes of a lot of boxing fans.

Even Khan said he saw Brook as several points down at the end of the fight last night. So, with the way Brook was given what many boxing fans saw as a gift decision, and with him not seen as the top fighter at 147, it pretty much takes away any bargaining power that Brook would otherwise have going for him in a fight against Khan.

“Kell has wanted the Khan fight for three or four years,” Hearn said to Skysports.com. “The British public has wanted it for 18 months or a year. It was always ‘if Kell had a belt,’ but now he’s got one and I think Kell can probably call the shots. I don’t think Amir will like that! If everyone sits down and realizes this is a great fight for Britain. There’s a lot of money to be made for both fighters. We saw what happened between Carl Froch and George Groves at Wembley and we can do something like that again.”

A Khan-Brook fight can definitely take place, but I can see the as one that will prove be impossible to put together because of both guys wanting to be top dog in the negotiations. If Hearn assumes that Khan is going to be the B-side in the negotiations simply because Brook won his first world title, he’s kidding himself. Like I said, the fight was controversial, and Brook isn’t seen as the No.1 or even the No.2 guy.

Brook is down bringing up the rear behind the top dogs – Mayweather, Pacquiao and Thurman – in the welterweight division right now in my view. Of course, Brook could change things dramatically if he were to put Hearn on putting together a fight between him and Thurman. If Brook can beat Thurman, then he’ll put himself in a much better position to get a bigger cut of the loot in a fight against Khan next year.

Thurman wants Kell Brook

Brook Porter Brook vs. Porter kell brook keith thurman (Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Cameron Gillon: Last night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Kell Brook defeated ‘Showtime’ Shawn Porter to win the IBF welterweight championship in a 12 round majority decision, one judge scored the bought a 114-114 draw whilst that was overruled by scores of 117-111 and 116-112 in Brook’s favor.

Before the bout, Keith Thurman was spotted at ringside and was given a interview in which he stated when he would be back fighting and who he would like to fight. Thurman said he plans on being back in the ring in October or November after resting his current shoulder injury, he has been having rehab on the shoulder the past three weeks, Thurman has been out the ring since April after knocking out Julio Diaz in the 4th round. Thurman is one of the bright prospects in the division and boasts a record of 23-0 with 21 knockouts, that is a very very high knockout percentage for a welterweight which makes many fighters have a longer think about fighting Thurman.

Thurman said he would like to fight the likes of Devon Alexander, Robert Guerrero, Amir Khan and the winner of Porter/Brook which was Brook. For Thurman’s sake it was probably best that Brook won as like Thurman said in the interview, Porters team haven’t shown any interest in fighting Keith and if Porter won it would be very doubtful that they would give Thurman a shot, Brook on the other hand went straight into his post fight interview, spotted Thurman and said he would like to fight him in the near future, I don’t see this fight happening just yet as Brook has a big domestic pay day with fellow brit Amir Khan which would no doubt sell out a outdoor stadium possibly Wembley, them two have a rivalry that goes all the way back to the amateur days.

Keith Thurman for me right now is to much of a big risk for a small gain for any of the world title holders at welterweight, Floyd Mayweather hasn’t shown any interest in fighting him even though Thurman is mandatory for his WBA title, Manny Pacquiao has never talked about fighting Thurman, and for Brook to fight Thurman in his first defense would be a big risk as Thurman is a much better and smarter fighter than Shawn Porter. For Shawn Porter he may opt to want to fight Keith Thurman now he has lost his title to try and get back in quickly with the top fighters but likelihood is after this result, Thurman will be ahead of Porter and Thurman won’t give Porter a look at for his next fight.
