actually the way i see it is the east and south is hot right now....if the west was back on top with alot more radio play people would get into it again and get curious about the more underground shit......jus like back in the early 90s.... i mean its pretty obvious.....the Bay started gettin slept on around the time Death Row jus slowed down and the West did along with it.

it aint about chargin people higher, people liek Nate are already hot cuz he works wit East coast rappers and hes been known since the Deathrow days.....notice everyone that left DR is still out there in some way

why u think mixtapes so hot in the east right now? whatever is mainstream iswhat people gonna like, and then wanna discover new artists

Umm YEAH and I would put my fuckin paycheck on it lol...I agree with you on the egos point homie but this IS a business...Not a game of friends. If I want someone's talent on my shit or vice versa it SHOULD be worth either a trade of sorts or money...But trust me, cats like Nate Dogg don't sing on Snoops records for shits and giggles.

Agreed. The quality of the MUSIC in the Bay didn't just all of a sudden "suck" (regardless of what those stuck in the '92-'96 era want to think), it's just that once the West coast in general lost hold of the commercial "ball" (around '97/'98), the South (and later, the East) picked up the ball commercially and ran w/it.

I could see Chuck bringing the West back commercially w/ Done Deal--IF he can get a good distribution setup for Quinn, Fully Loaded, Willie Hen and the others. After that, the possibilities are endless...

PEACE!

Well I agree with some things but first off, Im kinda of tired of this aint why the bay hasnt blown posts theres been a million of these everybody got all the answers, its like watching the game on the sidelines you see everything and its easy to say what you would do if you were in it or if you were in that position but the fact of the matter is that its different when you are in spending thousands of dollars and not seeing it comeback, then you got to do it all over again just for the same results. Our thing here is OVER SATURATION we have some people here that need to just make it their hobby and quit flooding the market with bullshit, man take your shit to strangers or people you know will give you a honest NON BIASED opinion of your shit if people arent really feeling it like the majority of everyone you played it for then MAYBE just MAYBE this aint for you.. But the bullshit is getting sorted thru cuz their no more Baysides, music people, places that will distribute cats, so bottom line you got to have your shit straight to get distribution!

I disagree a litttle chuck. I agree that we are over-saturated in the bay and that a lot of people are straight garbage and dont know it, but I dont think that it has a negative effect on the bay necessarily. Everyone has their choice of who they put on their album and the problem is people put their patnas on their shit instead of good features.

it kinda goes back to what dude was sayin before. Instead of putting all your boys on an album, you gotta go after people that will make your shit better. You should try to get people that can outshine you, thus causing you to step up your game.

that is where done deal gets it. Yall seem to be the only ones that get it. If you see a major label artist's album, they are only allowed to put their boys on two albums tops. Done deal is an exception though. you seem to make sure no one gets on an album just cause you know them and it would be cheap (or free). (except for maybe some of the comps)

This topic goes on forever...here is the summary of every "why the bay dont blow" threads:

1. No radio support. Especially no radio support in the bay area.
2. No local support (the bay supports its artist but not to a platinum level).
3. No Support from the female audience.
4. Bad Distribution.
5. Bad Promotion
6. No money
7. No Unity, rappers being to cocky.
8. Inconsistent product (ie 4 recycled songs on a cd, a cd with mediocre beats, a cd that relies on guest features)
9. No help from the top to the bottom (ie E-40 has been around years but youve only recently seen him promote Quinn, Keak and others.

By the way, Chuck, I gotta disagree with that. I mean, their surely are people flooding the market but IMO a lot of bay area rappers shoot themselves in the foot when it comes to putting out music.

exactly man.....see people have gotten used to hearin the poppy shit on the radio so of course they gonna say bay area shit is wack, if the West still had the ball im sure mainstream rap fans woulda kept their eyes on the bay and keep bumpin it as the sound changed over the years.....

so until theres a big ass wave of new and tight west coast artists who get the right connections (such as The Game) i dont see the West blowin up again

The bay DOES blow...

oh you mean why isn't it successful?

Maybe it's because the beats and raps haven't changed since 1992?

This is what i meant by over saturation: You have a kid in Missula, Montana that wants to buy a cd he browses the internet to check out some shit on whos Hot He comes to Bart sees a few topics about San Quinn, he is thinking about ordering something from Frisco Street Show froms Quinns Catalog but is hesitant because the last 3 BAY AREA cds he has bought have ben Terrible, poor Rymes, beats and sound Quality! So He never makes the purchase. That one person could have created alot of New Fans for San Quinn/Done Deal and other Bay Artist. But Instead that Bullshit stopped that guy from fucking with The Bay at all. And I met that Guy when i hit the road with 40 see this is a real story.
I also agree with Guest Features, a little advice if you got alot of rappers on your cd that its there first time on a cd or they have NO fan base established yet Dont put their name on the back of the cd give them crdeit on the inside cuz it looks like bullshit when you got all these rappers on EVERY song on the back of YOUR cd and I NEVER EVEN HEARD OF YOU , let alone Them!

But Radio plays THE biggest part!
no Video Support
No Major labels downtown here we cant go up to there office easily and get a demo listened too. and La radio plays LA artist cuz they all have DEALS! Shit Sly boogie is somewhat independent out there but Tech and Sway put him out..
Its Ruff on the bay but i cant sit here and complain i got to get out and make it happen shit last longer when you work to get it anyway shit that comes easy usually goes easy!
