I think that maybe the artists handlers don't know if it's going to be a hit song until it takes off and they are forced to play catch up. The artist should do the track, the video and the remix back to back and release them one after the other.

The music industry is changing. CDs don't sell for shit any more cuz why buy it when you could dl it. Now adays rappers gotta make money off of their shows, but most bay rappers don't know how to perform nor make some money off of their fame through advertisement.
This means one thing. if they ain't selling drugs or have a secret 9-5 some where... then their broke. you can't afford to record a video when your broke.

Why it got to be like that???? A couple of years ago a lot of Bay Area artists spend a decent amount of money trying to make professional quality videos and ended up with stuff they didn't even want to show on youtube....While it is true Bay rappers are not the richest or most monetarily responsible people, I'm sure they are not broke....I mean they do live in one of the most expensive areas in the country....

i hate to break it to you homie, but most bay rappers i come across are broke. they might wear nice jewelry and drive a nice car but they ain't really got shit in the bank. i was actually helping a famous bay area rapper (no i won't mention his name) get out of debt through debt settlement. i would have never known that he was broke until he told me.

IMO the video is the one of your most important forms of marketing. If you have confidence in the song, make some form of visual representation of it. Hella artists I pick up from other regions, I see for the first time on youtube, or some other video. Make that a part of your budget or be creative with the low budget. But get something out there.
