Everybody is too damn touchy when it comes to words right now. You can't say this cause 'so and so' will take it wrong, you can't say that cause 'so and so' will take it wrong. But 'so and so' can say this or that about anybody because no one will want to have a conflict with 'so and so'. What if somebody said something that 'so and so' didn't like but 'so and so' misinterpreted the meaning of what was said? That's where all the bullshit starts.

Mufuckas done took the shit to a whole new level with this, "I know this about you, so if you fuck with me, I'll put it on a record for everybody to hear" bullshit. This is KILLING the music. It makes Hip Hop look stupid because that's when the TV Shows get created strictly focusing on the negativity in Hip Hop. Also that's when you're watching CNN and you see the little ticker at the bottom of the screen updating the news reporting on every Rapper (regardless of whether you heard of him or not) who gets shot (they never report anything else except that shit).

Cats need to get back to focusing on the MUSIC and let all that extra bullshit slide. We aint in Middle School no more.

Is it just me?

I agree 100%. Beef is becoming so common in rap music that battles are losing their significance. It used to be a great thing when two artists would diss each other back and forth on a record, and not take it to the streets, and then after a few songs call it even. Now you got artists doing 4 or 5 diss songs on an album. Its getting ridicolous.

As always, good post Peete.

Peoples' unflinching *obsession* with the lives and loves and beefs of so-called "stars" is at epidemic proportions.

It is no exaggeration to imagine that there are mothers in the world who are more interested in who 50 Cent is fuckin than whether their children eat dinner tonight. At this point they could put a camera in the toilet 50 Cent uses at home, stream it live 24/7, charge $29.95 a month, and rake in the millions. People think drugs and religion are the opiates of the masses, but really it is this celebrity obsessed Truman Show society which is mired in an illusory stupor. Hearing your music aint enough any more, people need to know every insignificant detail of your life.

This over-saturated beef shit is just a natural progression of this fake ass marketing ploy called "reality" tv. Now all of the sudden it is not enough to be an excellent entertainer or musician. It is getting to the point the audience of a rap show will demand to see the rap cat on the stage actually sell a couple grams of crack and bust his strap before they accept their music. It all goes back to the question of whether art or life is imitating the other.

Can't say I completely blame the fans though for demanding increased authenticity and for adding fuel to the fire of these rap "beefs", seeing as how many muthafuckas continue to rap about how "real" they are keeping it.
