We see em all on BET,MTV and all the music channels across the nation chewing up mics off the top of their domes. They deliver pretty impressive freestyle skills.Believe it or not.A lot of them sign record deals and even release records. But they never go anywhere with their releases.WHY?

Who know if they go somewhere or not. Many bay artists out here in the minds of 99 percent of the people dont exist but it dont mean they ain't doin things. The industry is about alot of factors, right now its all about bullshit tudio gangsta east coasters. That's all you need to make it right now. Who know what the next thing will be in a few years.

To be commercial you're not allowed to be a good lyricist. Before the radio even plays your song they check for cuss words, gun references and hot lyrics. If you have any of the them they blackball you.

Case in point 50 Cent. He went from a bad ass gutter poet to "Me Im no gangstawwww / me i'm no wankstawwww / me i'm no actawwww / me i'm just ME"

As soon as he made the switch he blew up.

Jay-Z, Nas, 2pac, and Biggie all "dumbed down" their lyrics for their major radio hits - there was hardly any skill or wordplay in any of their hits. eminem too but he so tight his sub-par tracks are still excellent anyway.

Eminem shoulda stuck wit clownin himself.

Nobody wanna hear like on his new cd how he 'never was in a gang but knows how to use a gun' and all this.

Quote me on this, the minute Eminem tries to get accepted as street folks like he doin right now he basically done for as a rapper.

I know plenty of cats that are just off the hook with their freestyles...they are quick witted, they got punchlines...shit's great to listen to at parties. But these cats, when it comes down to WRITING A SONG, they have no artistic side whatsoever. To be a rap ARTIST, you gotta have more than a quick wit and good punchlines. You have to be able to tell stories, you have to be able to control peoples emotions, you have to be able to put shit in order and not jump topics in one song, freestylers do NOT do that shit!!

This is why I give a fuck about freestyling, I'm not into thinking quickly about words and phrases, it's not me....I like sitting down with a pen, and using my brain, telling stories, spittin' factual shit that matters....

I thinks its the difference between the guy who can play the dozens....uh signify...I mean the guy whose good at "cappin on people." You know, always clownin somebody momma. But that does not make him a good stand-up comedian, or able to make a comedy CD like Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, or Robin Harris,

Some are successful (Eminem) but like Sydal said a lot of em just don't know how to make a hit (Supernatural, Craig G, etc. etc.)
