When somebody asks where you from ? What exactly do they mean ? Do they mean where were you born, where do you live ? What ?

I mean somebody like me, I was born in the Mid-West but raised in various cities in California. Right now I live in South Richmond so does this mean I'm from here ? I mean if some dudes from North Richmond came rolling by when I was leaving the Manor are they going to stop and ask me where I'm from before or after that shoot me full of holes ?

being asked where you from..specially in the bay area...you better be ready to scrap or get shot ...

my point being that nobody cares where you're from it's where you're at right then. Nobody is waiting for the answer.

there was a point to the question, such as a rhetorical question guy and no they're not asking what gang you're from, they are asking what neighborhood do you claim or where do you live.

if u don't still live in the spot where you were born and raised then just say "Im from _____ but now I stay in _______" unless you have lived a bunch of different places then its up to you where you have spent most of your time and consider yourself "from"... or just i have lived all over but now I stay in _________
