i've always been into that shit...

for reasons more than just "sales" i.e. i look at the bay bridges comp...i dont see 1000 first week. what i see is a 17 year old producer did an ENTIRE album with some of today's most popular bay area artists and moved 1000 units in its first week. THATS what i see and why i care.

I dont really care personally. Although I am trying to do something in music myself and I like to see certain artists that I would consider "big" and see how many discs they pitch compared to how many i might be able to sell myself or the number i might think i need to be selling. Other than that I couldnt care less. When you see 50 cent at the top of the list in album sales for years, thats when you should realize it doesnt mean shit.

What's wrong with fans learning more about how the business works? Especially when there's 50 million of them trying to be rappers! And these cats can ask about soundscan numbers without it meaning the numbers control who they listen to.

thats called postmodernism. the internet brings knowledge and facts, and with that comes a craving for those facts. conan o brien always talks about 'when did people start caring about how much movies make' cause the average person is interested in that shit too. i mean, its a statistical way of seeing how popular something is.

if you like an artist... the better he does saleswise..

is the better chance they have of delivering you another quality album.. especially on the independent scene...

people buy albums because they like an artist.. and you'd like to know how he's doing... if i hear a good cd.. and then buy it myself.. then read that a lot of other people are buyin it.. it feels good to contribute to an artist who deserves it...

wondering how much an artist sells aint got nothing to do with a decline of care for the actual music.. which it seemed you were trying to imply
