production.. even some of the mob producers switched up. Sean-T, EA-Ski, Rick Rock, all aim for radio songs now. even tho they do make good beats these days, they dont compare to the 90's! at least T.C. kept his formula

actually to play devil advocate the younger "swag" generation is putting it down... and getting national exposure. I'm sure there will be more in the years to come.

the "old timers" won't ever blow up again... The more the younger generation stays creative and stay in their own lane, paying no mind to what the "OGs" think... they'll be fine.

the last few dudes that really got that heavy radio play didn't have any type of following before the radio. so the base of support wasn't as solid as it appeared. put hd and livewire on the radio all day everyday and watch them dudes damn near fill up arenas and have the majors all over the bay trying to sign dudes

Most of the production is weak and sounds like generic southern beats. With that said, rap is too saturated everybody raps and has access to be a rapper or producer etc no matter how much talent you have. It'll never get back to what it was. Besides bay area radio would break all sorts of artists, now they hardly go outside of the same 8 songs they play all day for 6 months strait.

the live instruments they used to play back in the days; guitars, drums, pianos, pipes - that music was brilliant; playing Too Short or Spice 1 cds was a whole different experience from what we can hear now;
not that I'm not feeling today's norcal music, it's just not the same; but everyone here know about it

Exposure / radio. The average fan out this way (Tennessee) probably couldn't name one current Bay Area rapper. Like dude above said artists like Livewire, HD, Mob Figaz etc.. could all be household names if people knew who they were. I dont think quality or substance is the issue at all.

I think the bay is fine when the artists do themselves. The problem is when they start trying to cater to the latest new sound and formulas. Then they start sounding generic and fade into the background. The bay needs to keep being trend setters.

I agree with you Playboy. They only know of 40, Short and Spice and C-Bo.. The problem is that everybody raps in every city and state now and there aren't enough fans like it used to be. Plus everybody out here in Nashville and probably some other southern states are only bumpin artist from their area.

^^ yeah thats a big part of it too. So many people are regionally biased. The first question they ask me when I'm playing something they haven't heard is "Who is this and where he from". Back when I was comin up it didn't matter.

I know you didn't ask me but I only ask that question so I know what scene to check for... I never hate on a rapper because they're not from the Bay.
