Here's what you do.

1) Stop being a lazy piece of shit.
2) Look up "Sick Wid It" or "Heresy" in the search archives.
3) Read every post.
4) You will have your dumbass question answered.

umm, thanks...i already know what most pro hip hop studios use...but i thought it would be a fun post...

anyways...one of the biggest hip hop studios in the country uses the Vintech 1272 as their main preamp...found that intersting as it's only 1200 bucks for two channels...

they use everything under the sun, its not somuch what you use but how you mix , when the big studios with ssl boards get to your shit its over, the sound can change alot for the better if the the right person is mixing it .
you can use anything you want in rap music there are no rules

The rap a lot sound is generated primarily from rolands.
East coast true school hip hop comes from the ASR-10 and SP1200.
Trash west coast rap and dirty south shit = triton.
Trash commercial east coast rap = triton.

Hot ass producers like rick rock, battlecat, fred wreck, timbaland, their trademark is to have shit nobody can tell what they used.

Ric Roc uses ACID sample cds for a lot of his sound sources. One cd in particular...

Fred Wreck uses a nord lead 2 for a lot of his sound. He also uses the triton.

Battlecat uses mpc3000, access virus, jv2080 with vintage keys expansion, korg trinity, korg triton, and se-1.

I can hear stuff all those guys use. I either own or use all the same stuff and after a while you learn how certain synths/synth engines sound regardless if they're custom patches or pre-loads.

To expand onto what Bumpus said about sample cds, Timbaland uses sample cds A LOT. I have several of the same ones. They've always been kinda like a secret weapon. The right little sound in the right place can make the music. Your sounds are the holy grail. They mean everything man!

Rumor has it Timbaland has every Emu module known to man...But samples most of his drums...Just a tidbit of info

And once again as far as production gear goes, it goes back to the old analogy...It aint WHAT ya got, it's HOW ya use it!

i wouldnt say that tritons are dead, but i would say that they are highly overused, they are very powerful tools, and i think they are mostly overused for the fact that people know they can go out and buy one of those and pretty much have 85 percent of what they need to get by making beats, and they dont have any desire to expand with more sounds or different gear or techniques. i myself have a triton rack and i love that thing, the percussion is a little played its a good peice of gear fo sho.... if you wanna get creative then learn how to really use a synth, and get into some analog modeling, 95 percent of my beats have a synth sound that i make myself. its well worth it to be able to tell people that you created that sound.

Triton's are DEAD. :dead:
i agree, i made the mistake of jumping on the triton bandwagon because that's what i saw everybody using. i would be a million times more happier right now if i would have done some fuckin' research and purchased a motif. i'm using my triton as a controller mostly. i still love the Dark R&B Bass patch, which I use on the daily and with the exception of some strings and a couple of guitars & keyboards i get sick of everything else real quick thanks to oversaturation. if i make an exclusive triton beat, i end up using sounds from the dance extreme expansion board and tweaking the shit outta everything else with the effects. it's a damn shame that you only get to have 5 of those.

luckily for me I still suck at making beats so i've got tons of time left to bring a new wave of oversaturation to the market!

The triton is not dead. It's got a good sequencer, some high quality internal sounds and a great synth engine. Perhaps the drums and some of the preset patches are overused. But it is a synth! Make your own patches. It is also a sampler. There is nothing keeping you from throwing string samples from a samplecd into the sampler and layering them with a sawtooth wave, droping a little LFO and a long attack. Don't let your $2000 purchase go to waste without utilizing all the features and being creative. The sound that comes out of any synth is not static. Nothing wrong with going to Guitar Center and buying a Motif, sampling the internal sounds of the Motif into your triton, and then taking the Motif back.
