The Minnesota Vikings have given receiver Troy Williamson, the seventh selection in the 2005 draft, permission to shop himself in a trade the Boston Globe reported.

Williamson, who is coming off an 18-catch season, has been a disappointment

We’ll have a story up shortly about the Vikings agreement to send Troy Williamson to Jacksonville — a team we had this weekend as the likely destination for the receiver (ouch, I think I hurt my arm patting myself on the back) — but just thought we should throw in that Minnesota is going to get a sixth-round pick in this deal.

edit: could even be better

Scout.com has confirmed that the Vikings have agreed in principle on a deal that would send wide receiver Troy Williamson to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a second-day pick.

A second-day pick is technically the third through seventh rounds now. Some reports are suggesting a conditional fifth-round pick that could become a fourth-round pick. Yet others are just saying a late-round pick.

The trade cannot become official, however, until the start of the league year Thursday at 11 p.m. CST.

The move reunites Williamson with the coach in charge when he was drafted by the Vikings at No. 7 overall in 2005, Mike Tice, who is an assistant coach with the Jaguars now. According to Scout.com's Adam Caplan, Williamson had veto rights on any trade.

Williamson is due to make $910,000 in base salary in 2008 and $1.435 million in 2009, the final year of his contract.

yea because its clear he can't catch anything. Plus that was a different coaching staff and front office who made that pick. It was Meat Head Mike Tice. They could have waited until probably march when the vikings would have released him. I'm happy the vikes got anything for williamson, he is one of their all time draft busts and while im disappointed that he didnt work out im happy we can get something back from a trade.
