VALLEJO, Calif. -- Vallejo Police were searching Friday morning for suspects in the shooting of a 15-year-old girl and a 21-year-old man at a Vallejo apartment complex the night before.
At around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, on a small crowd that had gathered in front of Marina Vista apartments in downtown Vallejo was subjected to a drive-by shooting, according to Sgt. Herman Robinson.
The teenager was shot in the upper thigh and the man, Shawn Young, was hit in the torso, though he was only grazed. A good Samaritan picked up Young and took him to Sutter Solano Medical Center, while the teen was taken to John Muir Medical Center by ambulance. Both were expected to survive their injuries, according to Robinson.
Neither victim said they knew why they were shot and as of Friday, no suspects had been arrested, Robinson said.
The suspect vehicle is described as a gray or silver sedan, possibly an Infiniti, and had three passengers. The suspects were all black males wearing masks, and one of the suspects had dreadlocks, Sgt. Jeff Bassett said.
Police recovered 14 shell casings at the scene, he said.
Thursday was the 21st consecutive day that police responded to a shooting report or discovered evidence of a shooting in the city. The week before, Marina Vista apartments was where a 16-year-old was shot in the thigh. The shooting remains unsolved, according to police officials.
Vallejo City Councilwoman Erin Hannigan said Friday that the owner of Marina Vista apartments hasn’t done enough to prevent violence – police have had to visit the complex at least twice a day in recent weeks.
“We have to rely on property owners to monitor their own properties,” said Hannigan. “We’ve requested this property owner in particular to step up their security levels.”
