Using PC to control Digital SLR??

Is there any software that interfaces with any of the Nikon family DSLR's? I remember seeing somewhere some elapsed video of snapshots taking by a camera every few seconds for a day and it came out pretty cool. I'd like to hook it up to my new D-40 I just got a few days ago. If anyone knows drop one.
