Theres been talks around the company about unions forming company wide. It looks like the higher ups are totally against it being that there is a grip of anti union shit around our internal employee website. My question is, for those that that do work in a union environment, how do you like it? What are the pros and cons vs. a non unionized company?

Union is the way to go. My company currently is non-union, but I have worked for unionized companies before and I highly recommend it.

What type of work do you do? Different unions are stronger than others.

Union dues are what most people consider a draw back. You contribute some of your pay to keep the union going and working for you. Similar to taxes.

Your company unionizing WILL cause major drama for you. Your bosses will try to pressure you and your co-workers. They will bring people in to pressure you. They will do everything to fight it. They will probably fire people who try to organize.

But you do have rights and the union organizer should help you recognize those rights. But it wouldn’t hurt to do some research on your own.

Union jobs from my experiences provide better work place safety, better wages, better work hours, better benefits than non-union jobs.

I have family members that are old and retired and can live comfortable only because they belonged to a union.

unions are better for the reasons CB listed...BUT they are also a drawback..if you have a lazy motherfucker in your department it is very hard for them to get fired, written up etc etc etc...ALOT of union employees have no motivation to do barly enough to get by, which in turn causes more work for others that actually do work hard.

I have been union ALL my working life (16 years), and yes I get decent benefits, great wages, good hours, safe enviroment, nice desks, comps, etc etc etc....I have also had to deal with ALOT of lazy ass motherfuckers who didn't pull wieght, caused OT (or just alot more work with no OT) because they got with union and filed grievenes every time they tried to get written up, told to do better, etc etc

So if you have a good union it's good for you in lots of ways! but bad in others.

All in all I enjoy being union and would NOT want to be non-union.
