(07-10) 17:00 PDT OAKLAND -- A man who lay down on the tracks in front of an Amtrak train in Oakland had limbs severed but was taken from the scene alive this afternoon, authorities said.
The man lost some limbs and was hospitalized in critical condition, police said. Further details were not available, and the man's name has not been released.
Three other people have died this month in the East Bay after being hit by Amtrak trains. A San Rafael woman was struck and killed just south of Jack London Square on Sunday, and two people died after being struck by the same train - in Berkeley and later in Oakland - on July 3.
