When you're in the studio.Do most of you carry in your notebook and spit your lyrics or do you all memorize your lyrics, then spit.....

My homie said its best to memorize your lyrics then go in the studio and spit.He says it gives raw emotions of the words and you dont trip ot stuuter over them trying to read word 4 word....

So,wuzzup.lemme know the deally..........1

on point....that's my philosophy as well, but sometimes you got those sessions where you write ya shit right then and there, and record it on the spot......

but yes my biggest thing is being able to put emotions into my delivery, instead of sounding like I'm reading.....

50cent sounds like he's reading on his tracks...

yea...i hate when cats come up in my studio and tape their lyrics on the wall right by the mic and read off it...then half the time they fall off the rhythm of the beat...im like "man yall gotta say your shit over and over a thousand times in your head all day, at work, wherever you are, that way the next time you step to tha mic you got it memorized and it just flows out your mouth hella naturally." thats what you gotta do, its not an easy thing to just write some shit and spit it right after...it dont work as smoothly.

I memorize my shit on occasion, but most of the time I just go in there with the notebook and do the damn thang. I'm one of those rappers who can write a song, and spit it with all the emotion, no problem at all. A lot of cats can't get away with that because they read slow...but I'm always a line ahead, and I ALWAYS remember how I wrote the song and how I need to emphasize each and every word.

you all have some very good points. Out of All the people I've recorded for, they all do their best when they have it memorized.
Plus if you don't have a stand or place to hang lyrics up, you hear the paper rustling in the background on the mix.

@Sporadic, did you rip that track I laced you with?

i can do that also, but i'd rather memorize.... it makes things alot easier and you only have to concentrate on 2 things.... the lyrics, and making sure each syllable stays in sync with the rhythm of the beat... if you don't have it memorized, it adds an extra task to concentrate on, and that's readin it... but after messin up a whole bunch of times from readin it, it usually sinks into my brain and i don't have to read it anymore...

I hear you. I paid flat rates in the studio, full package deal negotiated before recording took place. I would have saved money if we did it by the hour or 10 hour blocks. I knocked most of my songs out in 15-20 minutes, went back and mixed later. A lot of the time spent in the studio didn't involve many fuck ups, but it involved a lot of organization...

But yea, a lot of rappers it would cost them a grip to do that shit....but like I said, 15-20 minutes to lay the vocals, adlibs, hooks, and organize the shit...that's 3 tracks an hour for me...

WELL ME, MOST THE TIME I HAVE MY VERSES MEMORIZED, BUT I HAVE TO HAVE MY NOTEBOOK OR VERSE WHATEVER IN MY HAND WITH ME, ITS JUST A COMFORT THING, LIKE A BOY AND HIS BLANKET, IT KEEPS ME IN CONTROL OF MY DELIVERY, I NORMALLY DONT EVEN READ OFF IT, IF I DO, I HAVE THE ABILITY TO READ LINES IN ADVANCE JUST TO MAKE SURE IM ON POINT, AND NORMALLY MY 1ST TRACK IS JUST MY BASE TRACK, THEN I BUILD OFF OF IT, AND I PUT MY EMPASIS THE WAY I HAD WROTE IT, I JUST KNOW HOW I WANT TO SAY SOMETHIN.... ITS REALLY NOT DIFFICULT, AND I DONT BELIEVE ANYONE CAN TELL EVERYTIME SOMEONE USES A NOTEBOOK TO RAP, CUZ EVERY ARTIST I HAVE GOT DOWN WITH HAS RECORDED A VERSE THEY WAS READIN OFF THE PAPER AND ONLY FEW OF THEM I CAN TELL... ITS NORMALLY THE ROOKIES THAT DONT KNOW WHAT THEY DOIN IN A BOOTH THAT HAVE THE NOISY PAPER, AND SOUND LIKE THEY READIN.... CUZ THEY NERVOUS, BUT ONCE YOU LEARN TO BE IN THE BOOTH, YOU LEARN ALL THIS SHIT, HOW TO FACE THE MIC, WHERE YOU WANT YOUR PAPER TO BE, IF YOU NEED TO TURN A PAGE, HOW TO TURN IT W/O MAKIN NOISE ETC.... BUT I WRITE ALL MY VERSES ON 1 PAGE, SO I AINT GOTTA DO ALL THAT, SHIT IM ON LIKE 4-5 TRAX ON THE BART COMP, 2 OF THEM I DID W/O READIN, AND 2-3 I DID WHILE READING, TELL ME WHICH ONES THEY ARE??? WHEN YOU HEAR EM.... I BET YOU CANT TELL, BUT LIKE I SAID I KNOW WHAT IM DOIN WHEN I RECORD....

ALSO, THIS TIME FACTOR YAL TALK BOUT... TIME REALLY DONT MEAN SHIT, CUZ I'LL SPEND 4 HOURS TO DO 1 SONG, I DONT LIKE TO RUSH SHIT, AND IM VERY PICKY ESPECIALLY NOW.... BUT THEN AGAIN I HAVE MY OWN STUDIO SO I CAN TAKE MY TIME... THE 3-4 HOURS IS NORMALLY WRITING A HOOK, LAYING IT DOWN, LAYIN THE VERSES, SOMETIMES WRITING MORE VERSES OR ADDING SOMETHING... AND FORMATTING THE SONG, AND DURING ALL THIS IM MIXXING THE VOCALS THE WHOLE TIME, SO WHEN IM DONE RECORDING, HALF MY MIX JOB IS DONE...

SYDAL, YOU WAS ON POINT WITH THAT 1ST POST!!! SAME WAY I AM.... I JUST SPEND MORE TIME ON WRITING MY VOCALS, CUZ I LIKE TO FUCC WITH MY WORD PLAY, ALOT OF TIMES I'LL WRITE THE SAME VERSE 3 DIFFERENT TIMES, BUT I CHANGE A WORD HERE OR A LINE HERE, OR FLIP A WORD WITH ANOTHER ONE.... I NORMALLY SPEND BOUT AN HOUR ON EACH VERSE, BUT ONCE IM DONE, ITS ALL DOWN PERFECT...
