TA: This post is kinda an extension of what I was saying and I didn't want to give the impression that everything was weak, rather then everything is the same and played out. There are some stand out artists but overall...so , so. Technology and basic skills at least guarantee the average rap artists that they will have a decent album. But I just havent heard any classics lately.

I think PRINCE IN EXILE was extraordinary though this year.

Peace.

Theres a lot of expectations on this board that most artists don't make. If your beats dont use handclaps, tamburines, or sythesizers and dont sound like the beats from 95' then you arent commin tight.

Personally, I think the bay is just as good now as it was, just more product floating around which makes it tough to pick up the right releases.

well when i consider something trash, it'z usuallly having to do with lyrics, delivery, style, etc.....all that type of shit. i'm also an artist and i've made hella shit wit garbage beats, so when i buy a album off the streets from a young hungry artist, i'm not pissed if the production or mixing isn't top notch.

only thing that makes me mad is when an artist promotes & markets his album big and shit. and you buy it and you feel like you've been cheated. such as poor production, weak lyrics, and most of all recycled tracks/verses.

too many bay rappers can't rap no more...

all the underground headz from the mid 90's have made a name for themselves and the people who've tried to take the torch for the bay's underground scene just don't have the skills or imagination...

that's why everyone's stuck on '94 and '95 when they compare a bay album...

of course, there's alot of bigger name folks who've just fallen off too... and that contributes.

Nope. Plenty of newcomers bringing heat. Fully Loaded, the Riddla, Willie Henn, Reak Daddy, Mr. Kee, Cozmo all bringing heat.

Again, everyone's stuck in 94-95 because they can't admit that the sound has changed. Most people don't even give the new sound a chance. Like Tre-8 said in another post, "I would hate to see what the east coast would have been like if they put Doug E Fresh in the forefront instead of Nas" or something like that. Ya get the point. If you keep waiting for solos from artists that havent dropped cds in five years and have lost their touch you will continue to be a sorry ass rap fan...if you take some risks and support the consistent ones you will be a happy one.

I know some will probably get offended, but I think what is basically happening is...
We have all these "rappers" (or "record labels") that haven't established themselves as rappers (or record labels) that are dropping shit. And it's not just one person, it's that person plus 15 other motherfuckers. This causes a "flood" in releases and the consumer doesn't know what to get because he's given these types of artists a chance but ends up dissapointed... then he gives another one another chance and he's back to dissapointment. What do you end up with? 50 releases within a year and only about 5 of those are worth the time and money put into them. That makes it seem like these "artists" are only in it for the money and respect, not for the love of the art. Especially because they come with nothing fresh or new.
