The reason that everyone suggest the NS10's is because the do sound like crap. If you can get a mix sounding good on them then your mix will pretty much sound good anywhere. The Event monitors are great. I like the Mackie HR824's a bit better though. You can't go wrong with the Genelecs if you have the dough.

Just my 2 cents

^^If it sounds like crap your mix will sound like crap. You'll end up over- compensating when it comes to EQ. Stick to something flat...or a system you KNOW.

Multi million dollar studios have ns-10's for a reason.
Like dude said, they have a certain sound to them, and if you're mix sounds good on those it will sound even better on most other shit.
I have the mackie hr's and some ns10's. I wouldn't say I really need them. I don't do alot of big mix stuff anyways, I make tracks, and the mackies are good enough for that.

Ns-10s are not the only monitors found in big labs, and some big spots don't even have a pair. I don't know of any multi million dollar lab that uses ns-10's as the main set of speakers. All the spots I've been to or heard of use them to reference after the mix has already been constructed. I mixed on a pair of ns-10s, and the mix sounded really good in the room, but when it left the studio everything fell apart. Also, multi million dollar studios have multi million dollar rooms, so you can't expect to achieve the same results with ns-10s because you aren't hearing the same thing.

^^ You know what pair of speakers I want to snatch up? Those computer speakers in Funks spot. They are really thin and see through. You've worked with the guy more than I did how did you like them?
Yeh he loves them things. You can snatch those for like 150 I think on EBAY.
They're cool for what they are
