I enjoy reading up in the field of science, I think it is quite fascinating to be honest. It entertains the imagination as to how everything in this world operates or came to be. I know that some of it is true and that some is false, and a large grey area in between, and for that I remain a skeptic.

The string theory to me, as true as it might be, like other theories is a great science fiction movie.

I'm going to have to watch those videos explaining this. I was trying to understand it, but it's a hard concept. Black holes? Alternate realities? I'm going to have to read more on this.

I think that string theory, and it's alternative M theory, are most likely wrong. The concept of sub-microscopic strings giving rise to all visible matter by their vibrational patterns seems a little far fetched. However, the math looks pretty good (the parts that I understand), and the fact that theoretical physicists are willing to delve deep into the realm of 'science fiction' is a good sign. No longer are we holding onto outdated paradigms which have been unable to further theoretical physics, instead we're finally starting to use our imaginations. So even though string theory is MOST LIKELY wrong, it's a leap forward in our mode of thought.

If you want to read up on string theory, one of the best books available is called 'The Elegant Universe' by Brian Greene - it also gives you an excellent simple description of einsteins general and special theories of relativity and quantum mechanics. If you're interested in physics, this books is a must read!

My calculus teacher was talking about this he mentioned something about the world being composed of 17 dimensions or something. He told us that it was very abstract and that he even had a lot of trouble understanding the whole thing.

I watched every video on that Nova special in the link.

I'm not sure how I feel about "branes" and their concept of what the Big Bang may have been. Also, the concept of the many other dimensions also shakes my brains up.

We're all aware of the dimensions we can see only because we were built to survive in them. We are aware of time, and of spatial relationships. What I don't understand is how gravity can travel along a different plane than light? And gravity can travel through the different dimensions.. It's all theory, yea, but I'm just trying to *grasp* it.

I may have to watch them again just to grasp the connection between Electro Magnetism and The Strong and Weak Forces. I also have a hard time comprehending space as a fabric because, to me, it's just.. a lot of nothing with bits of matter floating in it.

The idea of bending space, ripping holes in it and black holes just blew my mind. How does a math equation say so much? Is anyone here really into math, and has a better grasp on this stuff?

I know about math but havent seen this. But my math teacher last semester told us that the math in this is very abstract and advanced. He said that he strugled to understand the math so i figured if someone with a Masters in math cant understand it i wont be able to either.
