On April 20th, 2006, Billy Corgan officially announced on www.smashingpumpkins.com that the band was back together writing material for their first album since 2000. The band plans to record the album over the summer of 2006, with a possible late 2006 or early 2007 release date. As of yet it is unknown if everyone will return. It is speculated that the line-up will include Melissa Auf Der Maur.

In my opinon they need James Iha back as well to really be the Pumpkins. Now that APC is on hold for the new Tool I don't think Iha is doing anything so I don't see why he wouldn't go back (besides Corgan's god complex.) I would like to see the original line with D'arcy included but if she isn't there it wouldn't be that big of a deal.
New Smashing Pumpkins in late 2006, early 2007? Oh boy!
Let's see...new Tool, new Pearl Jam, new Smashing Pumpkins...all I need now is someone to resurrect Kurt and Layne and for Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine to get back together and this will be a great year in music.:devious:
