Quarterback JaMarcus Russell, the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2007 whom the Oakland Raiders released in May, worked out for the Washington Redskins on Tuesday, according to The Free Lance-Star of Fredericksburg, Va.

Russell had a 7-18 record during his three seasons with the Raiders. Last week, a Mobile County (Ala.) grand jury declined to indict him on chargers of possession of a controlled substance. Russell was arrested July 5 for possession of codeine syrup without a valid prescription.

Russell told Fox 26 Sports of Houston two weeks ago that he was convinced he will get another shot at the NFL.

"I know for a fact," said Russell. "I have faith in God and strong beliefs. I know for a fact. It's going to happen.

"I can't say when, but until it happens I am going to stay here in Houston and continue to work out each and every day no matter how long it takes."

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan replaced starting quarterback Donovan McNabb replaced McNabb with backup Rex Grossman with just less than 2 minutes to play during Sunday's 37-25 loss at Detroit. Shanahan said Monday the move was made because of McNabb's "cardiovascular endurance" issues.

John Beck is the Redskins' third-string quarterback.

I saw a recent ESPN interview he did....he hasn't changed. He's just trying to say the right things to get back in the league but he's still a sorry sack of shit.

LOL he learned from the best Siccness sports goons. Its just the love for the game. You either have it or you don't.

You either like sports because that's what everybody is talking about (bandwagon) or you are a true one and watch whenever you can and have ability to see sports in a coaching perspective, also played the game before and understand it.

lol thanks, I would have loved to been around watching football when bill walsh was coaching, as well as vince lombardi. You guys are lucky to have seen football back then, even watching ronnie lott or atkinson and tatum or guys like that beat the living shit out of people, now if you touch the helmet with your pinky you get flagged :/
