Spielberg, Smith in talks for 'Oldboy'
Pair may kidnap remake of Korean drama

Steven Spielberg and Will Smith are in early discussions to collaborate on a remake of Chan Wook-park's "Oldboy." DreamWorks is in the process of securing the remake rights, and the new pic will be distributed by Universal.
In the 2003 Korean original, a man gets kidnapped and held in a shabby cell for 15 years without explanation. Suddenly, he's released and given money, a cell phone and clothes and is set on a path to discover who destroyed his life so he can take revenge.

Spielberg had been looking for an opportunity to make a film with Smith, who would play the kidnapped man if all the pieces fall into place. Spielberg is looking for a writer to begin the development process.

The film was originally set at U and then found its way to Mandate.

Minus The Departed there has not been one other even decent foreign movie remade by American directors that I can think of off top of my head. Will Smith and Steven Spielberg are going to butcher this movie into more then likely a PG-13 crapfest.

If you haven't seen Oldboy rent it/download it and stay away from this garbage when it gets released.

1. Oldboy is a great movie.

2. It's not a "Will Smith movie" seeing it's yet another remake. Fuck Will Smith.

3. If there are any aliens in the movie someone should shoot Spielberg, I doubt there will be any though. Although I don't know how I'm sure he will find a way to use CGI in the remake when it isn't even needed.

4. They are going to ruin this film. I don't even have to see it to know how much it will suck. It will be a box office success of course though.
