Well allow me too backup why i feel hip-hop is dead.
1. THE MC = dead
As its been pointed out, this whole shit is Built around gimmicks... i remember back in the day niggas wouldnt care about the radio, they would just " do them" now it seems everyone is doing " radio-songs" for example everyone in the bay area does a Hyphy song or something along those lines... something with no Lyrical attachment. THE old bay rappers were spitters. the yuks, the dru downs, etc etc etc etc etc.....
Now lets talk about minstrel rap. allow me too quote allhiphop.com
" Minstrel Rap
If a song comes with a pre-packaged dance, check. If a song is about a food or food metaphor, check. If a song uses a nursery rhyme to support a piece of jewelry, check. If there are White people mocking you on YouTube with said song, check. Get the idea? "
THE DJ = DEAD
Mixtapes.... yes its clear that bootlegging has taken over the modems and its very much active. i remember back in 1991 maybe 92 and the mixtape scene was about DJs showing there craft and blazin new music from artists from his or her block..... Mixtapes are thrown together by individuals who think they are " rappers" or other individuals who feel they are " djs" because they have protools or more in importantly have access too new music coming out of regions. i can start too explain how the DJs are controlled by a higher power but we all know how radio works and we all know how clubnights are.
Grafth Artist = dead
I remember back in the day, Graffiti especially in new york was heavy and it seems that the whole artform of art on buildings and such is just not what it use too be. i just dont see graffiti as i did when hiphop was in fact poppin.
Break Dancing = dead
Finally. i remember when i was in 5th grade, niggas would wear helmets too school, not because they are riding the yellow bus. because they would break and it was poppin like that. I NEVER SEE ANYONE BREAKING. and seeming that the B-boy/BGyrl was a strong thing that brought hip-hop too what it was. hip-hop is in fact dead.
I recently heard DJ Kay Slay talking about how Jeezy and Ludacris have shirts talking about how hip-hop is alive and its in the south. something along those lines... now im not here too say the south doesnt produce good quality music because I for one is a huge killer mike fan along with outkast basically the whole dungeon family. HOWEVER alot of " gimmick rap" does come out of the south so i think MOST people are quick too say the south this and south that... Hip-hop as a culture is dead. none of above are poppin. and Until they do. its gonna be ugly. Coporate has taken over. and its kinda scary too think where Hip-Hop is headed. Theres no Buzz. No Originallity and no Tours.
This is my personal opinion.
Peace
