Health Officials Declare Santa Cruz Beaches Unsafe
(BCN) SANTA CRUZ Santa Cruz County health officials announced Tuesday that recent tests of the water at Cowell Beach west of the Santa Cruz Wharf and Santa Cruz Main Beach west of the San Lorenzo River show unhealthy levels of bacteria.
Both beaches have been posted with signs warning visitors against swimming because of the high bacteria levels.
The source of the elevated bacteria levels is likely due to the recent breaching of the San Lorenzo River and not due to sewage, according to the Santa Cruz County Environmental Health Department.
