I'm getting real tired of artists throwing on some instrumental and calling that shit a remix. that shit is not a remix, its you rapping over someone else's shit. adding your verse to the new Jeezy song or slightly altering T.I.'s single to say something a bit different but damn near the same is not a fucking remix.

Ya Boy is a talented artist. He could be one of the best MCs in the bay or the west coast, but the man needs to stop doing "remixes" and start doing songs.

Same goes for you, mr random unsigned bay area artist. getting the "throw some d's on that bitch" instrumental and rapping over it doesn't mean its a remix, it means you are too cheap to buy beats and make an actual effort to create music.

This isn't directed at anybody (well, it is directed at Ya Boy, but that muthafucka ain't finna read this shit) but if you do make "remixes" then do something different. throw a new beat behind your single and change the way you deliver it, or get other artists in the studio with you to add vocals. try something different.

[MIXTAPES] are to be given away to display talent and have people search for that certain artist they thought was tight. At least that's what it used to be.

Now a days mixtapes are just like the rap game...saturated.

So if the remix isn't official u cant call it a remix? Whats wrong with doing an unofficial remix from time to time? I see what you're saying that too many artists do it all the time, but what's wrong with doing it from time to time?

Also my friend is too cheap to buy beats but he just takes instrumentals no one knows.

i've never like mixtapes that weren't mixed. dj's mixing and blending records is what i always thought a mixtape was. mc's fucked that whole shit up.
I agree that MCs fucked up the whole mixtape thing.

these days any idiot can play songs yell on each one call it a mixtape and say there a dj. drop 99 sound effects on each track. 99% of these so-called mixtapes got the same tracks anyway. in each case u can find the tracks on the rappers cds without the idiot dj yellin "exclusive" every 10 seconds

but the fact remains that if you're just using other foos beats you're not making real music, all you're doing is spitting a verse. I remember back in the day when you had DJ's spinning records and MCs freestyling over them. then MCs decided to cut out the dj, and cut out the freestyling, but still call it a "freestyle" even tho they wrote the verse they just busted.....

if you're gonna remix a song, then take the acapella and create a new beat around it. then add your own lyrics. just looping a part of it and throwing your verse in there is hella fucking gay. if you're finna drop a mixtape, then remember its a MIXtape, not an explosionsandgunshotsandrandomjunglnoisestape. hire a dj to mix your shit (not talk all over it). and don't end up being known for only doing cover songs (even if you call them "remixes"), put original material in there.

so really Defy, you're saying that youd rather hear hurricane chris on his own beat versus ya boy on the same beat??? cuz i mean im a bigger ya boy fan....no disrespect to you but i think youre puttin a lot on it when all these artists is trying to do is create and keep a buzz going by hoppin on the most popular beats out at the time and doing their thing on em...to me aint nothing wrong with that, we aint payin for these tracks....it is what it is but why does it bother you? when ya boy drops his next real album itll slap....i guarantee it
