Damn, they're not fucking around....

Redskins sign former Steelers WR Randle El

NFL.com wire reports

WASHINGTON (March 12, 2006) -- The Washington Redskins snagged their second receiver in two days of free agency on March 12, agreeing to terms with Antwaan Randle El for a seven-year contract.

The Redskins also signed tight end Christian Fauria, giving coach Joe Gibbs three new weapons for an offense that struggled in the playoffs.

The signings came one day after the Redskins sent a third-round pick in this year's draft and a fourth-round selection in 2007 to San Francisco for receiver Brandon Lloyd. Randle El and Lloyd will be formally introduced at Redskins Park on March 13, the team said in announcing the signings.

As promised, Gibbs and owner Dan Snyder were once again extremely aggressive as soon the free agent market opened Saturday morning. Randle El was one of the top available players and was expected to be courted by several teams, but the Redskins' offer had him signed before the weekend was done.

Receiver was the top free-agent priority for the Redskins, who needed someone to complement Pro Bowl wideout Santana Moss. The surprise is that the team pursued not one, but two.

Randle El wasn't the Steelers' top receiver, but he's a versatile athlete who can cause unique problems for a defense. He caught 35 passes for 558 yards last season and threw a touchdown pass for Pittsburgh in last month's Super Bowl.

Fauria will replace tight end Robert Royal, who signed as a free agent Saturday with Buffalo. Fauria spent the last four years with New England, winning two Super Bowl rings. He started 10 of 16 games last year, catching eight passes for 57 yards and two touchdowns.

The Redskins were also in discussions with linebacker Andre Carter, safety Adam Archuleta and quarterback Todd Collins. All visited Redskins Park over the weekend.

They got a good receiving core now....

My question is, where are they getting all this money? they were supposed to be in really bad cap shape, and releasing Arrington was spose to make them just get under the cap, are they making backloaded contracts? pulling some bullshit? IMO none of Washingtons WRs are clear cut #1s, they got some small ass dudes, Moss may be the closest to a #1, randel el is a #2 at best, lloyd kinda fucks the group up tho

Come on dog.... You trying to say Santana Moss is not a #1 receiver? Give me a break. He's an All-Pro WR, if that aint a clear cut number 1 then what is?? And yea Randle El is a #2 WR, that's exactly where he'll be with the Skins, behind Santana Moss. And Lloyd fucking up the group? LMAO!! You do understand that Lloyd was the ONLY person any D had to worry about on the Niners right? Now that he's got others to take the heat off of him he's going to break out. The dude is fun to watch as well. Now the Niners got the most boring team in the league until they start signing some talent.

I guess watching a WR drop easily catchable balls, and dive all over the field is fun to some people. im simply stating my opinion on Moss, My idea of a #1 is a big wr, not just a speedster, yes yes yes a small dude (steve smith) led the nfl in yards last year, and im a huge fan of his, but he was always overshadowed by a big dude (muhammad)

I believe we also still have David Patten... I know he got injured during the middle of the season but we can interchange between the four receivers but we'll have to see how the Skins utilize them cuz I know we're gonna have guys wanting the ball more. But I like said I wish we could have gotten a linebacker to fill Lavar's spot! Cuz Holdman wasn't doing jack when the coachs had Lavar on the bench. Alot of the big runs the Skins gave up came from Holdman's side but I think the Skins were trying to get Andre Carter from the 9ers also....We'll have to wait and see how it turns out!

Damn we also got Carter! I hope this isn't like years past where we sign good free agents and do nothing during the season.... I guess Danny Snyder is willing to spend all kinds of money to sign players. Its just kind of weird that he pays alot of money to some player who probably aren't worth that much... But oh well i'm loving it as a Skins fan right now!
