the lady at my work said shes proud to be white and i didnt take offense..im proud to be black..why cant she be proud to be white?
it depends how extremist you are about your pride
black people who have pride in their skin are different from the extremist blacks who blame every single thing on the white race
there are muslims and extremist muslims
i judge accordingly and not by title
now saying "white power" or "black power" is indicating that theres power over other races, and i dont feel that term being used at all
and just because i dont have a problem with her being proud of her descent (nor do i know where her geneology leads to, it could be many different places) dosent mean that i dont have a problem with things white people have done systematically throughout the last century or 6, but thats niether here or there when talking about pride..that should be the opposite of pride

u gotta understand that for a few hundred years that taking pride in being white should come w/ a bit of shame if u take in everything your white ancestors (be them blood or not) did to all the minorities that are found in this country, a long with outside. If anything only after the 1970s can white folks in America be considered in a good light - after all thats when segregation was kinda let go of (but after that u have white flight so....)
So when a lot of ppl hear someone say im proud to be white, who isnt white, they tend to maybe think of the unfavorable things done over the course of history, in the name of Whiteness. Its hard for folks to let go of that. Granted every race has their issues its kinda hard to sit here as an American and want to flaunt the past as something commendable. However it isnt wrong to say ur proud or unashamed of being white. Maybe after a few generations and situations like Katrina being handled differently folks wont be so ready to jump on a white person for being proud of their history.
But lastly I've never heard a black person or mexican person or anyone of color ever say, 'aw fuck St Patty's day, thats for crackers' so i dunno where ur gettin ur sources from.. on St Patty's day im sure a bunch of black folks r sippin on some incredible hulks

White isn't a race. So being proud of something like that, IMO, is stupid.
On the other hand, being proud of Scottish heritage or something is completely different. But if you don't understand your background you shouldn't be "proud" of it.
But it's the same with every other "color" of person. If you don't know your background then shut the fuck up. Or it could be that people are too fucking ignorant to get over it...I mean, there is NO FUCKING DIFFERENCE between WHITE pride and BROWN pride...except the words WHITE and BROWN. and 4 the ppl that sit n wonder how White isnt a race but Black is, well lets just look at Slavery and its impact. A good portion of Black folks can only trace their actual roots to the early days of America, and not to a specific nation in Africa. So as a result we're just Black. Then again there r some White folks in the same boat so ehhhh
