I listed them Chronologically. I hadn't ranked them yet.

if I did it would come out something like this:

Illmatic (1994)
Street's Disciple (2004)
It Was Written (1996)
God's Son (2002)
Stillmatic (2001)
Hip Hop Is Dead (2006)
I Am... (1999)
Nastradamus (1999)

although the covers of I Am and Nastradamus were the best, with stillmatic being stupid as fuck.

streets disciple was actually a pretty good album....I mean, it was a double album, so of course there's some throwaway tracks on there....but for the most part it was good

i threw it was written out of my car frisbee style the moment he said "fake thug no love you get the slug" which was the first 8 words of his album

i mean, he had just got done frontin like a italian mobster on the firm album..
firm album came after it was written. the track "Affirmitive Action" was on there and it was the first Firm song, and actually had Cormega on it before they dropped him for Nature.

I hated it was written cuz I kept comparing it to illmatic....then I heard I Am and Nastradamus and the Firm and I realized how good it actually was.

The Message (the song you're refferring to) was clean as fuck too....with primo cutting in Nas shit from illmatic. also had the song where he put himself as a gun (even tho organized konfusion did the life as a bullet first) and it had some other clean ass songs on there too.....even affirmitive action was tight.....I mean, everyone thought foxy was just throwing out random ass numbers, but yeah....Nas basically started the mafioso rap shit tho....his verse on Mobb Deep's Infamous album was all mafioso inspired shit. then rae dropped cuban links (with nas on it, and were talking about biggie biting nas) then It was written came out, so the whole album was in that style....
