SAN CLEMENTE -- A 23 year old man is under arrest after police say he killed a dog with his bare hands, ran naked through a tennis club and poured coffee on his head.
The bizarre rampage began shortly after 4:30 a.m. when deputies were called to an apartment building in the 1100 block of Calle del Cerro because of a loud radio.
Deputies tried to contact the resident, identified as Bayron Reyes Lopez, but no one was inside.
"We get there, go in the room, the guy is gone," according to Orange County spokesman Jim Amormino.
Authorities believe Lopez jumped from a third-story window when deputies arrived.
Deputies looked around for him and couldn't find him, Amormino said.
Dispatchers received a called at 6:09 a.m. from a frantic woman who said her dog had been violently attacked by a man.
The woman said she was walking her 5-year-old mini schnauzer,Kokanee, when a man grabbed her dog, choked it, and slammed the animal onto the sidewalk, killing it, Amormino said.
The man turned out to be Lopez, according to Amormino.
Minutes later, authorities received another call.
This time, Lopez was reported running naked in the Rancho San Clemente Tennis Club located at 111 Vista Montana.
He was seen pouring hot coffee on his head, according to officials.
Police arrested Lopez who worked as a maintenance man at the club for three years.
They took him to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo and then transported him to the Men's Central Jail in Santa Ana.
He is being charged with cruelty to animals and may be charged with being under the influence of drugs and narcotics if that is confirmed, Amormino said.
Kokanee died in her owner's arms while being transported to a veterinary hospital in Mission Viejo.
A small memorial has been set up where the dog was attacked.
