Q: Printing on T-Shirts

I know a few of you know your shit well and have experience which is why I ain't trying to get 50 different answeres from google. Anyway say I want to do designs and have them printed on to shirts for friends and fam, Do I do my work in CMYK? What resolution do I work at? Is there anything else I should know before I start messin with this?

i've made t-shirts, but i didn't have them professionally printed...i used the iron-on transfers that you can get at Office Depot...i've done all my design in RGB at 300DPI...here are a few samples of the shirts i've made...
