It’s official: former drug kingpin “Freeway” Ricky Ross has filed a lawsuit against William Leonard Roberts II aka rapper Rick Ross, in a California Federal Court.

Freeway Ricky’s attorney Melvin Sharpe Jr., ESQ., filed a trademark infringement lawsuit on Friday (June 18th) in U.S. District Court, Central District of California.

Judge Percy Anderson will issue summonses to Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and rapper Rick Ross who could both be called to testify during the discovery process.

Additionally, Jay-Z, Maybach Music Group., Slip-N-Slide Records and UMG Recordings are named as defendants in the lawsuit.

Jay-Z is named in the lawsuit because he signed Ross to Island Def Jam in 2006, while he was President of the legendary label, which Ross still calls home.

Under his deal with Def Jam, Rick Ross has released three chart-topping albums: Port of Miami (2006), Trilla (2008) and Deeper Than Rap (2009).

On Friday, lawyers for Freeway Ricky filed paperwork seeking a temporary restraining order for preliminary and permanent injunction relief, to officially block the release of Ross’ upcoming album Teflon Don.

Freeway Ricky accuses rapper Rick Ross of stealing his name, image and likeness to create a successful rap career.

The former drug dealer from Los Angeles, who raked in millions-of-dollars per day during 1980’s and early 1990’s.

In 1996, Freeway Ricky Ross was sentenced to life in prison, for attempting to purchase 100 kilos of cocaine from an undercover agent.

The sentenced was reduced in 2005 and in May of 2009, he was released from a Texarkana, Texas state prison.

Freeway Ricky currently runs his non-profit organization, Freeway Enterprises, which engages at-risk youth across the country and warns them of the perils the street life.

not sure if this will even see court.

can you sue for something that got you locked up?

i mean, being "that dude", OG got himself in trouble with the law, gets locked up

dude flips persona, and sees legal riches

if this goes thru, it sets precident for old folks to come out the woodwork and start suing .

Billy the Kid - Bonnie & Clyde - Al Capone - John Gotti - Carlo Gambino etc.

....and why not Freeway, you ask??

because Rick Ross is MAKING MONEY.

you cant squeeze blood out of a turnip, but you sure can out of a C.O.
i see what your sayin but i doubt he could sue for the use of the name freeway its too common

rick ross took his whole name and persona so they might have a case

it will prolly get settled outside of court for an undisclosed amount

either that or lawyers beefs will become the new hype and rappers will run around suin each other for a buzz

soooooo....

my question is, why not go after ross sooner?

not like ross just came out yesterday, he's been doin' his thing for years. he's just now starting to mainstream bubble

i'm sure they get ozone, source, murderdog, and the numerous regional music mags in jail, so im sure hes heard of him along time ago. plus him or someone affiliated with him had to of heard the music.

why didnt he get in touch with slip n slide when ross was with them only? why wait until he's sns/mmg/def jam? (because thats 2 more enteties to name in the suit, plus sns wasnt seein major bread back then) just find it more then odd that a man of his "stature" didnt reach out to ross personally or to his management in beginning.

whats the purpose of suing someone?

to get paid.

it obviously didnt bug him or his team until the other ross started making major money.

if there was really an issue, then why not address it loooong time ago is all im saying
