sup yall im doin this project in school on sub-cultures and my topic is underground rap and I just wanted to know if yall had anything you wanted to state about it or whatever that i could quote ya on...

on that same note if ya could think of shit that fell into these 4 catagories that would help a mutha fucka out too...

symbol - anything that carries a particular meaning recognized by people who share culture

values - culturally defined standards by which people assess desirability, goodness, and beauty, and which serve as broad guidelines for social living

norms - rules and expectations by which a society guides the behavior of its members

language - a system of symbols that allows people to communicate with one another

The underground world is a remote place but at the smae time many of us underground labels and/or artistfel we r at the line that divides us (the underground) from the main stream or commercial rap. How ever many , i would guess about 98% if not more, never cross that line yet being and feeling so close to it. then u got the commercial rap artist and labels that claim they never will cross and or never did cross yet they r not underground anymore..............but once u get to that commercial or main stream status then there is a diffrnt set of rules (NORMS) that u hafta go by to keep ur status (NORMS), so now u have left ur orginal status (NORM and/or VALUES), and moved to another set of status que. The LANGUAGE stays pretty much the same, except for the one makin the new rules or (NORMS) they will set new (NORMS) like E 40 for example there fore settin a new LANGUAGE for the underground rap. in all cultures SYMBOLS change in due time but i think rap in general the SYMBOLS change so quick due to the artist or label wanting ta be the person or group that changed the NORMS and/or VALUES in that culture...........example.........thuggin, blingin, ballin, pimpin, etc............just a couple thought for ya, dont knwo if that helps but Big Robb gets in to Philosophy.........lol.......
