lol, $500?????
average price.

if artist are seeking very low prices, then u must realize that you are asking the producer to sacriface the amount of time and effort he is willing to put on creation and techincal aspect of things for that he is not being truly being paid for his time and labor.its like your just asking for a lower quality i mean....look at it like this...artist in the bay,its alot of them right? exclusive rights to a song meaning you hae total control over it,depending on what your contract states, points and who owns the masters and what have you,im willin to bet that for alot of the may underground artist the initial price the producer is charging will more than likely be the only money he will ever see from them, cuz not to many ppl getting signed or getting major spins to generate enuff royaltie money. 500$ is a typical price for demo work per song... i mean i mean....some of yal just be askin for too much. its 30$ to copyright a song,it prolly went up,but last time i checked it was at 30$,alot of cats be tryin to get the joog for 50$ a beat. which leaves a 20$ extra amount of money.come on now, if u add studio time,u cant even really find a decent / pro studio for 20 per hr.and we havnt even added the expenses for mixing and mastering/arrangements...femme?

you gotta invest in yo careers...

i like yo music mayne, its real smooth, and i believe it said on your myspace page that you are a son of a musician, not to mention, a very successful musician, thats really good. you have the upper hand on alot of parts.keep doin yo thing,u got my support

real talk....the majority of cats in the bay want everything for free...also they won't be getting signed anytime soon to even wanna have to understand what points are....shit I've engineered at a studio for years and made tight beats and would even charge $100 for a track and the cats would still say um....nah dude we gotta beat maker..so let him get on your equiptment a make a beat that really slaps...and it turns out to be some dumb ass space wack ass beat..cuz they don't wanna break any bread...and then try n come short on paying for the already low studio prices.....time & time again this happens....why? cuz niggas spent all they bread on trees, drank, pills to come to the studio and smoke so they're wack ass shit can sound a tad bit better...

moral of the story?

invest in your career
true. But a producer really don't have the right to charge high rates with no credits. No credits= low prices , don't really matter how good you are.
Music is 99% politics. Pharell can make a beat with 3 sounds charge you 100K and its platinum. You can make the best orchestrated track ever created, and somebody will want it for free.
Get your name out, credits up, then people will want to pay what you're asking for sure.

absolutely true and their are exceptions to it and you hit it dead on.for me i know my worth,i personally charge anywhere from 100-500 and up+. i say "and up" because for example; if sony or def jam was to approach me,i kno that they have money to spend so ima try to get a bigger amount, same goes for an artist who may have a big buzz for already proven amount of moved units. producers have been known to take advantage of unsuspecting artist aswell for easy money aswell, alot of em are guilty of it,i seen it happen first hand rather people are willnig to admit or not,ive done the same.however i still do free work here and there and have been known to toss in a few extra beats as far as package deals on lower rates.im willing to work with an artist budget, and its exceptions forthat aswell cuz some may be in need of development which = time, which in turn = money. politics of it all plays a major role in this true but we will need some type of initiative for our work aswell

true..true....but that's what the industry created....and this should not be....it should go off how nice the joint is period...no matter who did it..and alot of the so called industry producers today with all the limelight would be replaced....top producers don't even create all they own beats...alot of um have people come up with beats on they style and break um off a lil somethin cuz they can sell um for a arms and a leg...and that's fucked up....but that's what the industry has become.....shit..Pharell has a website and has a produecrs page on it...and lil beat makers be posting they shit up there in hopes of maybe some type of deal or whatever..and Pharell be takin bits n pieces and melodies and ect...you know how they do man....cats be jackin straight up.....

Probably, but Industry demand is what allows producers to charge outrageous prices. Like it or not, it's always been that way. Hustle and politics will outshine talent most of the time. The biz is cold that way. If you don't wanna get jacked, don't put your shit all on the internet either. I've been jacked more times then I remember. I don't do that ish no more.
my point- 500.00 is alot to ask for a new beat-maker. But it's a free country, so ask 1 billion trillion dollars if you want! lol

I completely agree with investing in your own career, but as an artist coming up with $500 dollars for a beat really ain't that easy especially when you need 12 to 15 for an album.Like Vince said if you ain't got credits that not only show who you've worked with but also are not going to help albums sales by name alone IMO that is a little too much. If I had bread like that I'd be coppin em all day from cats like Vince and a gang of others. And seeing as how with the proper marketing and promotion you could sell a pile of shit-I would put the $500 in that part of the biz.

but as for the original reason for this thread-I like your beats.
