the stores, you will be needing a UPC code. The code will let the
stores identify your product and track how many sales you have.
Most stores will not take your product unless you have one.
The bar code costs anywhere form $700.00 to $1,200.00.

Hummmmmmmm, So are the first 7 numbers of the Bar Code registered to you and your company???? Are you a Record Label???? So all the titles that use a Bar Code bought from you will be "CO-REGISTERED" to you???? So will this make your Company look like it is moving a ton of units???? Will this make the MAJOR Labels look at your Company's "Sound Scans" and give you a possible Press & Distribute Contract????

From my Music Business classes I have learned to ask alot of questions. Maybe this will help some of the Artists and Company's out there.

Good Questions mane...I really dont know much about it, I just got my UCC membaship...Ive registered 4 barcodes to date. I think you right tho about that Co Reg shit..I figure its the same thang as gettin it for free from a pressing plant that offers that. The 1st 7 #s are the same for every barcode I produce..You right about that. Yup we are a record lable too.

Id like to find out more info on this tho, so anyone that got it, drop it...

The main purpose of having a barcode is so the Soundscan company, which tracks retail music sales with their trademarked system, can track your particular release properly. If a manufacturing plant offers a barcode to a customer, that customer's product may start tracking on Soundscan but, the default record label that shows up is Disc Makers. ( They bought the original code, remember? ) But again, relax, there is a Soundscan form available that the recording artist can fill out and submit which changes the barcode registration on that specific 10-digit number to the recording artist. The recording artist will be listed as a "sub-label," by Soundscan, but all their contact information will register with SoundScan. In case you are interested, you can download the relevant Soundscan form from http://www.discmakers.com, if you want to.
