My little sister got into a car accident, but no cops were involved. No pictures were taken, and no phone calls to the insurance company were made. It happened 2 months ago and since then, it has turn into a complete mess.
When it first happened, the dude she hit wasn't mad at all. There was no clear damage to his car, except for a loose bumper. Him and my sister switced numbers so that he can get a estimate of how much she'll end up owing him. The first time he got an estimate, the total came to about $989.45. He goes on and talks about how he was able to fix the bumper himself by simply snaping it back into place. And with that said, he starts using some reverse pychology by making it seem that the auto company is ripping my sister off. With this information, he advices my sister just to write him a check for $989.45. He gave my sister a letter saying that she'll no longer be reliable for any other damages for the car, but if she wishes not to write the check to him, he'll just report it to his insurance company. And we all know, that the goal is not to get the insurance company involved.
My question is: What do you think we should do? He's obviously trying to rip my sister off becuase the estimate shows that it's only $500 for parts, and another $500 for labor. We told him that we'll just write the check to the company, but once we gave this proposal, he got so upset and threatened my sister that he'll just bring it to his insurance company if we do this.We know he wants to pocket the money, but he's doesn't want to admit to that. He says that his "son in-law" are gonna do it themselves.
This is simply bull , and he's trying to hustle us for our money. It's been 2 months so far and my sister's car (which was more damaged) has already been fixed for only the price of $500. We also asked him if we can just fix it for him, but as you know, he got more upset. I mean, if he takes it to the insurance company wouldn't it be late. He has no proof that my sister hit his car because no pictures were taken and my sister's car is already fixed. Do you think the insurance company will just dead the situation and say forget about it? I don't know, what do you think we should do?
