The Golden State Warriors have re-signed guard Monta Ellis to a multi-year contract, it was announced today by Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Mullin. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not announced.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have Monta under contract for the next several years,” said Mullin. “He has been one of the top young players in the NBA for the last two years and enjoyed a tremendous season last year. The growth that he has demonstrated at such a young age is incredible and we look forward to him playing a big part in our future success.”

Ellis, 22, averaged a career-high 20.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.53 steals in 37.9 minutes in 81 games last season. He ranked 14th in the NBA in field goal percentage (.531, 3rd among all guards), 15th in steals and 25th in scoring. He became only the ninth guard in NBA history to shoot 60% from the floor for an entire month in February (.602). The 6’3” Ellis scored a career-high 39 points on January 24 vs. New Jersey and scored 30-plus points on 12 occasions overall.

Originally selected (out of high school) in the second round of the 2005 NBA Draft by Golden State (#40 overall), Ellis was named the NBA’s Most Improved Player following the 2006-07 campaign, when his scoring average increased by nearly 10 points per game from the previous season (6.8 to 16.5). The Jackson, Mississippi native has averaged 15.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists overall in 207 NBA games during his three-year career. Additionally, his field goal percentage has increased by nearly 6% in each of his three campaigns (.415, .475, 531).

Deal is reportdly 6 years $66 mill.
Just need to re-sign Biedrnis and we are done with this offseason.

why do people always ask this question concerning a big contract? I dont think he needs to be a leader just yet, he has other things to prove. I just want another season like the last one for him. People always stressed j rich not being a leader, and i think thats because we just always assume the highest scorer or highest paid player can do that. Its just not synonymous for me.

I appreciated J-Rich's game as much as anybody. The reason i said what i said is Ellis still needs to prove himself even though he has improved majorly theses past 2 seasons. 10 mill is a lot for any player, you got to be an all around good player to get that kind of money and what seems to go unnoticed is that J-Rich improved in all aspects of his game.

People are saying he has to be the best player because A) he's gettin paid the most and B) people want someone to fill Baron's shoes. Every team gotta have a leader and its natural that these 2 things point to him. But I dont care who it is as long as we win games. Shit I think Stephen Jackson is the quote unquote leader now

Stephen Jackson is defenitely the leader as of right now. For the first time in my life I can finally say that the Warriors have a future. Assuming Andris signs w/ us, we finally have a team who can compete for a CHAMPIONSHIP in 3-5 years. By then Monta and Andris will be in their prime, not to mention Wright, KA, Rambo, and Randolph will be entering theirs, Marcus Williams could develop into a solid pg, and Austin will solidify himself with having the meanest pump fake in the history of the NBA. I never felt so good about my team since the Sleepy & Mullin days.
