this will be great for sampling if you're able to cut drums or background instruments from vocal samples.
I seriously doubt this software will do that since it's designed to manipulate single sound samples. It's a great editing tool (especially for people who don't necessarily play instruments) but it's not going to be able to strip down a mix.

^ If you're expecting the software to provide a way of magically reversing a mixdown, just read their website. You'll get a better understanding of what the software actually does.

oh my god. is all i can say. It will definitely be able to do what filthy rich said to some degree, but what im really wondering about is how this will affect sample clearance. Will you still have to clear a sample if you use melodyne to change the notes of a sample?? I cant wait to try this shit out!

The point you're missing is that the guitar chord is a single sound. The same waveform in different pitches. A sample of a chord played by a single instrument is greatly different from a mixdown. If the software were actually capable of breaking down a mixdown, don't you think they'd show that off? Or even mention that ability on their website?

Again, I suggest reading their own website to understand what the software really does. It's great for what it is, but it's does'nt work miracles.

I think if you import a mixed down file and run it through...something will happen. I doubt the mix will come out untouched. Maybe the results wont' be perfect. I think it depends on the file imported as well, if it's waves are all over the spectrum. There might be a problem. Where perhaps you take a track from Lauryn Hill's unplugged CD where it's just her and her guitar. It may work. Seeing that they used guitar chords and vocals as examples.

^^^ but if the guitar and lauryn hill strum/sing the same exact note then the program will not be able to differentiate them.

the creator of direct note access, peter something (dont know his last name) talked about how he does want to create a program where you can fully De-mix songs.

Everyone thought this direct note access was impossible, so i think within the next 5 years we will be able to de-mix songs completely. wow, i cant wait

Anyways, what about sample clearance? how would direct note access affect that? thoughts?

Mylodyne have some fairly creative and innovative products. Nothing to go WOW over though. The use ability factor for me personally, is zero. I can live without their products.

You have to remember this plugin deals with pitch, so it groups and separates the pitch of the waveform sample. That's all it does. Allowing you to take those separations and move them around.
