Seattle police say an intoxicated 25-year-old man, who told officers he believed he was a ninja, was impaled on a metal spike Monday night after a failed attempt to jump a 5-foot fence.

Around 11:15 p.m., officers responded to the 600 block of Seventh Avenue after a 41-year-old man called police to say he had been assaulted, said police spokeswoman Renee Witt. Officers arrived and found the impaled would-be ninja, Witt said.

It turns out the older man, who was heavily intoxicated, tried to go into a sports bar in the 600 block of King Street, Witt said. The younger man, who isn't a bar employee, barred the man from going inside-- and an argument between the two men escalated into a fight.

At one point, the men chased each other in the street, she said.

In an attempt to get away, the younger man "thought he'd basically be able to jump over this fence, and he didn't quite make it," Witt said.

As a police account of the incident notes, "Clearly he was overconfident in his abilities."

That's when the older man called police to say he'd been assaulted.

As police arrived to search for a suspect, one officer heard the 25-year-old's screams and found him stuck on the fence with the metal spike jutting out from his buttock, Witt said. The man was bleeding profusely.

He was taken to Harborview Medical Center, she said. Questioned at the hospital, the man told police he believed he was a ninja.

Since the two men "were in the middle of the street, chasing each other around," Witt said officers determined neither man would be arrested on suspicion of assault.

On behalf of the ninja community, I would like to assure readers that this man is not in fact an actual ninja. We are certainly embarrassed by his antics, and want everyone to know that true ninjas do not behave in this fashion. A real ninja would most likely not have impaled himself on a fence; and if he had, he would have almost certainly done it quietly, in secret, and nobody would have heard about it; and if by chance somebody did, the ninja would have assassinated them before they could tell anyone. The way of the ninja is shadow and silence. Not sticking a fencepost up one's bum. That is the way of the doofus. Kanpai!

^^^ Hahaha, yeah I read that too.

On a side note the Seattle Times comments have some of the most annoying posters ever. It's like everyone is either far right Republican or far left Democrat, and stupid on top of that. Plus they take obvious trolls serious on there too and get into debates with them. It can be pretty funny sometimes.

^ reminds me of comments posted on the santa cruz sentinel website
Although both cities are known for their hippies and far left views I must say neither one of them comes close to The San Francisco Chronicle's comments.

Because even though everyone on here and on BART will have you believe that SF is full of gangs and killers it's really not. It's a pretty safe city and quite scenic. In fact the comments page on the SFGATE has the worst type of hippie - the San Franciscan.

The San Franciscan is like the uber hippie. They're intellectuals who all have Masters of PhD's in things like Art History or English and believe that they know more about running a city than the Federal Government or the municipal government of the county of San Francisco.

Seriously...if you want to dispel all the rumors about how The Bay is this warzone (or LA for that matter) read one of these magazines. Because as high as the murder rates are in these metropolitan areas, there is no way they're as vivid as murdah415 or OrangesForSaleinSoCal will have you believe.

[slang throwback] On the strength! [/slang throwback]
