KMEL isn't half bad anymore!!!

I lived in the greater bay area my whole life until college. I've been living 4 hours south for the past 2 years, so I haven't even heard bay area radio since i lived there. I NEVER listened to the radio when I lived in the bay. I went home for the 3-day weekend, and was driving my moms car around. At first, I was pissed cuz I had no cd's, but i was pleasently surprised when I turned to KMEL. Saturday night, I heard pretty much NOTHING but bay/sac rap. I heard there was a sunday show, which wasn't bad at all either, but pretty much the whole weekend, I heard bay stuff on the radio. KMEL is BY FAR ahead of the others, but I even heard a couple bay songs on KYLD and KSFM.


Everybody makes it sound like the bay gets NO airtime up there, but in the 2 years i've been gone, it's made leaps and bounds. I heard songs on the radio this weekend that I would have never DREAMEd of hearing on kmel.

Yea i just came back up to the bay from san diego for like a year and i can definitely say we got way better radio stations here than most places.
Before i didnt think they were anything special, but they are pretty quality truthfully

It's way bigger then Von and Scottie as to why they have been playin Bay shit...I ain't hatin, but I remember when Scottie and Von was playin the fuck out of that NY shit in the clubs and on the radio...the credit goes to the artist for makin hot music, the people for forcing the hand and the new station for making kmel become the "peoples" station again. I hope the shit keeps up because it's time the Bay got some fuckin "stars"...we deserve them.

yeah, its a lot better now...its completely changed from about a year ago, when they started playin "gasoline" by 40 hella times a day. the real thing is, hella people like mainstream, obviously, so its never gonna be ALL bay, and im satisfied with that. i just hate when they play the same 5 mainstream songs over and over, but if i could hear just one knockin bay song out of those 5, i'm a happy man.

... kmel plays more bay shit too be safe... im sure 92.7 wont play bay shit... but kmel has too have some kind of nitch too be better then the next man..... Hot 98.7 sucks.... plus if u know anyhting about anyhting thats santa rosa and thats a different market..

sure i dont have the knowledge on what Michael wants too do and what is said in the mixer meetings and in the meetings.... it just seems a lil iffy that this high-influx of bay area rap is getting air play... when a brand new radio station pops up.... thats all.

106 has always played bay area music.. along with 94.9 i dont think they ever JUST DID NOT PLAY bay music.... i just see a big influx of it now.... and this new station poppin up.


and yes I appreciate u checkin out 95.... well im waiting on that frontline album &... a few more albums out the bay.

think about it..when did Welcome to the Bay come out, when did SO International come out, when did Automatic by 40 come out, when did we do the Grindin remix, when did who u wit come out... 2 years ago? somethin like that.. it just seems that bay area music has started itself back up.... sure there were cuts that were hot here n there, but on the WHOLE, the bay brought itself back up, and that it why we play it more now...

so what ur sayin is that the music isnt whats drivin it? its just politics? if thats so, why arent we playin every half-ass kid with a demo? BECAUSE the music is what drives it. Lot of hot shit out the bay right now...

im really not talkin down to you, im just sayin that maybe people shouldnt make accusations without basis in fact. i like 95live, i think its a great idea..the more outlets our bay artists have the better..now if only we could get a half-decent video show in the bay!
