We congratulate Don Barden and PITG Gaming on their successful bid. Obviously, we are very disappointed that the Isle of Capri was not awarded the slots license. We want to thank them for their effort over the past year, including an unprecedented offer to fully fund construction of a new arena had they received the license.

We also want to thank the dozens of local leaders and thousands of fans and concerned citizens who voiced their support for what they believed was the best plan for our region. Had Isle of Capri been selected, it would have ensured the long-term future of the Penguins in Pittsburgh and would have delivered a $1 billion development opportunity to the Lower Hill and Uptown.

At this point, our franchise enters a period of uncertainty, with our lease at Mellon Arena set to expire this summer. We will re-evaluate all of our options before deciding on a course of action and making further comment.
Theres been hella talk on KCSPORTS radio about the Pittsburg Penguins (NHL)coming to Kansas City. We got that New Arena (Sprint Center) thats gonna be done in Oct. '07......you can take a look at it here....

I doubt it. Taking hockey away from Pittsburg is not a good move. Then to move it to KC of all places? I dont know, I just dont see it happening. I can't dispute them moving it from Pitts, maybe it isn't doing well at all, but there are plenty of better places to move it than KC. No offense against KC, it just doesnt strike me as a hockey town.

They're talking about moving them to Portland too. Mainly because the Rose Garden is already built and supposedly perfect for hockey. I heard Houston is also in the running.

I cant imagine that they would do very well out here, I dont know a single hockey fan and I've lived here for 10 years. They would probably be better off trying to work something out in Pittsburgh.

At least the Portland Penguins sounds cool, and they would only have to compete against the Blazers in the local market. Whats stupid tho' is then we would have two winter pro sports and still nothing in the summer except for minor league baseball & soccer.

You can sell any sport in California. San Jose and Anaheim are big on hockey. Even though Phoenix doesn't play very well, Gretzky is the coach and that brings in a ton of attraction. I don't know about St. Louis, other than the team is last in their division right now which is never good.

I'm just saying that there are other cities in the US that will generate higher revenue than bringing the team to KC.
