What programs do I need immediately to prevent bullshit ass viruses and fucked off adware/popup bullshit? I realize that there is a vital thread in place regarding computer questions but that didn't really provide information about what you need initially with a new computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a free trial of Norton and shit, should I go ahead and purchase that shit? Let me know.....

I'd defintitely get some kind of anti-virus program as well as a good adware/spyware remover. Try getting Ace Utilities for registry cleaning, unneeded file remover etc. if you don't do it manually. I'd definitely read up on how to clean up your registry manually tho if I were you.

Basically you should ALWAYS have a firewall as said above. AD-AWARE, SPYBOT SEARCH & DESTROY, and MICROSOFT's ANTISPYWARE are the 3 best antispyware appps out. They are all free available for download online. Run all 3 as much as possible. Back up your shit onto a usb external hard drive, and you will be set.

As for virus apps, i used to use nortons, but have found that panda is much better, finds more shit and does it faster! I have a free copy if u need.

Also watch what sites you frequent.

u r soo wrong. These days u dont even have to use filesharing programs or download to get spyware..it just leaches to your system if your connected to the net..

and yes i agree 100%, get rid of internet explorer and get firefox/mozilla...much better browser

trust me im a computer tech, these other fools are just telling you what they think works for them. but i know better then anyone here...
