The Game
West Coast Ressurection
(Get Low)

"Before he hooked up with Dr. Dre, sold more than 1.6 million albums, and had words with 50 cent, Compton rapper the Game recorded this disc in 2002 with Bay Area artist-mogul JT the Bigga Figga. But the newly released Resurrection is not just a lazy cash grab. While an abundance of no-name guests dilute tracks like the Dre knockoff "Krush Groove" and the faux-crunky "Blacksox", there's redemption in "Promised Land." Built on an exquistely soulful boom-bap beat, the song is an engaging peek at an MC honing his nascent rhyme skills. In a way , it's like watching a Documentary.

then they give the album a B-.

what is "no-name guests" and "faux-crunky"? while they may not be big name artists, they make it sound as if that by itself ruined the album, they dont need to portray everything non-mainstream as garbage. "faux-crunky"-aka "hyphy" is also boo boo too.

oh well, keep gettin ya money Jt...im gonna go look for other issues of ET to see if they mentioned Untold Story.

The "no-name" guests they're referring to (Blue Chip and Nina B) are pretty damn tight and can hold their own when trading bars with The Game. I don't know about you guys but I smell an "album of the year" candidate with this one.

I didn't know who the guest spots were... I just figured they were people from the Bay

I guess I jumped to conclusions... should've known exactly what they were talkin about... oh well

Yup. As far as mags like those are concerned, if you're not mainstream, you're not worth knowing. They only want to promote you if you're someone that "everybody knows" (thus, the "no-name" description for Blue Chip, etc). But it's cool--to me, mainstream mags like EW (and for that matter, THE SOURCE, XXL, VIBE) are NOT the place to get any kind of objective opinion on Rap music in general. They go w/ whoever's "hot" at this-or-that time. Do your thing, JT.

PEACE!
