whats up yall thats right i just signed a deal to teach 100 students how to be a successful ceo in the independent rap market. so in the next few days you will start to see new names poppin up asking alot of questions about the bay and some of the artist that rep the bay. these are high school students and collage students that strickly want to learn the best way to get started and make it in the rap game.

if its not to much to ask , i have at least 50 students that have internet at home to watch this particular thread and others to gain some insight into facts that this board brings to the tabel. i must say some of you dudes are are smart as fuck and bring alot of insight to the table, and yall good wit the history and the facts about dates and times and who was on it who produced it and just the finest details.
SO IM PROUD TO PRESENT THE BART BOARD TO A WHOLE NEW GENERATION OF USERS WHO NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT DOING BUSINESS ONLINE OR NETWORKING.

THE NAME OF MY CLASS IS BLACK WALL STREET BUSINESS SCHOOL
AND THE NAME OF OUR CLICK IS THE BUSINESS BOYZ
had to make it interesting for the youngsters need to keep they attention cause so many young homies are dying over crumbs in the street and they dont know they can make the same money and more if they focus on there GOD givin talents and the things they like to do to make a way for themselves.
it feels real good to be in hip hop from a helpers perspective than a look at me perspective. i must say its a blessing to have that attitude naturally in my heart and think thats why no matter how many people hate on the moves i make or things i do , theres always somebody there to have my back even if i dont know them personally, so i thank all yall for the years of support to help grow the fig into the man i am today because yall support of me boosted confidence to the point where i think i can do anything i put my mind to because i know somebody is going to support me so im not scared to fail, once your not scared to fail then you will reach for the stars until you can finally put one in your back pocket.

now i have made bad decisions in some of my business man and have hurt some people in the process, some where up set wit the recycling of some of the same songs on projects, some made beats for some of our projects and didnt get paid on time or have not been paid yet, some spent money on orders and didnt get them ontime, some felt i didnt give my best on an album and felt let down as a fan all of these things im guilty of and can only attempt to put my best foot forward and correct the wrong. i can be open wit nothing to hide because when your humble its easier to learn from it and grow from there.

so i want all yall students who are reading these words for the first time never been part of a community of internet networkers before, you have alot to learn about this business and anytime you can hear about some one elses bad decisions
that is an opportunity for you to make adjustments.

ALL MY BART BOARD POSITIVE PEOPLE CAN YALL SHARE A FEW THOUGHTS WITH THESE STUDENTS ABOUT WHAT ITS GOING TO TAKE AND SOME OF THE THINGS THEY SHOULD AND SHOULDNT DO.

ALSO MY HUSTLIN OUT THE TRUNK BART BOARD HEADS CAN YOU PLEASE LACE SOME GAME ABOUT THE FASTEST WAY SOME ONE CAN GET IN THE GAME AND MAKE SOME LOOT$$$$$$$$$$

thanx in advance yall for helping change the lives of some hopeful people looking in a new direction in life

one love

JT ONE LOVE IN THE BIGGEST WAY POSSIBLE

too all the cats just coming here...
BE A PERSON FIRST, a true hustler, is so damn cool as a person, he don't even have to hustle that much, cus people always want to help him, and do what they can for him...
if you ever meet JT one on one, which i have many times even if he don't remember, you will see that he's a genuine cat, and that's why people will always have Fig's back in the industry...how many rappers or Ceo's do you know that can HONESTLY admit wrong an apologize PUBLICLY to the people? not many, Real Men do though...

so basically, just keep it real fuck an ego, remember, every rapper from the bay is your Co-Worker, you don't have to get along with them, but in order for you and them to do your jobs right, y'all gotta keep it cool

also, never make music to make hits, make music to make dope songs, fans aren't looking for hits, HITS ARE MADE THROUGH FANS, not rappers...so just be you, and make music that PLEASES YOURSELF, free your mind and the fans will follow haha

Wow...real talk, JT. I'm no artist (I play the guitar a bit, but that's another story). I'm just a fan and student of music, having collected records, tapes, CDs, etc. ever since I was eight and reading countless music books, mags, etc. If I were to give anyone advice, I would say (based on what I've read and heard about many different musicians in many different genres):

1. DON'T EXPECT BIG BUCKS OVERNIGHT. It may take awhile to even make small chips. Do you love music enough to accept small money? If the answer is no, and if you have to "get rich NOW," go into another line of work. Jerry Lewis told Robert DeNiro, in THE KING OF COMEDY, "you don't just walk onto a national network show without experience...you've got to start at the bottom." This is true.

2. THINK LONG-TERM. Have as many future ideas as possible. Ice-T once said that when he signed to Warners, the interviewer asked him, "what do you plan to title your FOURTH solo album?" Outline your goals and expectations for future years, not just THIS year.

3. ALWAYS HAVE BACK-UP PLANS. You may not get to release both of your CD projects in one year, due to financial reasons, etc. In that case, plan to concentrate on promoting and spending money on ONE project for that year. Or, you may not be able to get all the guests or producers you wanted for a project. Keep a list of "alternates" whom you can call on for help in rapping, producing, singing back-up, etc.

4. CHOOSE YOUR GUESTS, FEATURES, PRODUCERS, etc., CAREFULLY. Be cautious about putting on your homies and girlfriends. If they don't have talent, they may not be worth it. And nothing can destroy friendships quicker than doing business with a friend (i.e., Ice Cube and The Lench Mob. LOL!)

5. BE YOUR OWN BEST PR MAN. You have to create your own demand for your own product. People have to know you're around first before they can get excited about your music. Take advantage of advertising and putting up posters in CD shops, etc. Learn how to press CDs yourself to make your own copies.

6. STUDY UP IN TERMS OF UNDERSTANDING YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS. In dealing with the music world, which is a business (like it or not), realize that more violent ways of solving things that you might have used in the streets may not work in a CEO office or radio station. Get a good lawyer who can inform you as to what's within your rights and what's not. Too many artists don't know exactly what rights they have (or don't).

7. BE CORDIAL AND ARTICULATE when doing business, speaking engagements, etc. If you know what you're talking about, and if you express yourself well (do NOT use the adjectives "gay" and "retarded" to describe things you don't like, please), people who may have connections that you may need will respect you more.

8. Whether you're commercial or underground (musically), HAVE YOUR PRODUCTS RECORDED, PRESSED-UP AND READY BEFORE YOU START SHOPPING FOR DISTRIBUTORS.

Well, that's all I can think of. But I'm sure that more experienced folks here can give other, better pieces of advice, so let them speak. Anyone? PEACE!

Damnit sav-man i post on this board once a week and EVERY SINGLE TIME there is a JT post, your up in there writing 500 page essays to support him. Is there something I don't know man? Do you jack off to JT "Straight out the Labb" posters on your wall? Whats wrong with you?

The best teachers out there are: J.T., Messy Marv, E-40, Suave, Big Tee, N-Sane, Black Rhino and even Roc from Black Armour, just to name a few.

J.T. I know you have sponsors in order to take the Business Boyz out to different events, labs, functions, etc... I'm willing to bring them out to Sac and show them some G-A-M-E and Introduce them to other artist. I'm on my way to Grooveline Magazine Black College Tour, but as soon as I get back, we'll holla.

Suave,

the game is real and could be a major outlet to make progress.

you can only teach something that you have expirence in. so this school is for those who want to be succesful in the rap game. i tell all the students to strive to be your own boss.a masters degree can help you with certain aspects of business, because there are divisions of business, but there is one common thread that connects all forms of business. but in the rap game there are only those of us who made it our career , so we have an angle to share that you can only get from someone who lives off the artform. and thats what this class is all about. shit i didnt even graduate high school, but i learned how to run a corporation and build it from scratch thru demand of a new form of entertainment called rap, and then studying it and practicing it until i felt it was time to let the rest of the world hear what i had prepared. and in doing so i began to recruit fans and supporters to help push this baby corporation called GET LOW RECORDZ , and began to release products 1 at a time until enough attention was focused on us to make our mark in the game which we have done through our efforts. success is measured thru where you were and were your at, direction and motion is every thing.

this thread is serious so all yall hataz speaking on some else opinion aint needed but knowing the board the termites will be out soon, but dont pay them no mind
they are the ones that live with mommy at 25 years old no job no goals no dreams just hate for those that strive higher.

Agreed 100%, in my opinion this is the best advice in this thread.
Business skills such as marketing, accounting, financial management, investment of profits, legal obligations & rights and taxation issues would be foremost concern. Without the adequate knowledge of these things the BEST artists would not be able to put food on the table tryin to run a record label.

This is the reason why the richest people in the music industry are NEVER the artists, but the people that take care of these things i mentioned above. And this is the reason why the richest artists are never the BEST artists regarding music talent.

Master P is a perfect example of this. Most ppl would agree the guy is a terrible rapper. But he got a business degree in his pocket and then made an empire.
