I gotta rock with J Dilla (RIP). If you need a reason, download "Two Can Win" off'a Donuts.

Madlib is sick as fuck but I don't always feel the samples he uses. He gets technical as fuck with his production but I just picked up Beat Konducta Vol. 1-2 and a lot of the samples on there aren't really hittin. He definatly knows how to put together music and he can master/mix the fuck outta his shit!

MF Doom is tight as fuck to me. He's a better rapper than producer though, I think. Don't get me wrong, I love his beats too, but his shit is more repetitive then the other two.

Dilla, my reason is that "J Dilla Shit" beat. Doom is clean but sometimes he's just got random beats, he makes to many and I think doesn't put much effort into them. I gotta listen to some more Madlib to judge him tho, so far I like his work but like Dilla's better.

I was never a J Dilla fan......I liked what he did with The Umma tho, when they produced together their shit was raw as hell.....but for me I can always tell a Dilla beat, its just not something I look for.....out of those 3 choices tho I'd go with Madlib....but neither of the 3 would be my favorites

Doom pretty much just loops and throws odd ass drums behind the loops......but he does pick alot of sick ass records to sample

madlib, hes done everything from rap to reggae to indian music to jazz music to albums as an alias to rapping to scratching and djing

i love me some jay dee music but jay dee is dead and madlib lives on to cnontinue to create and advance his craft

jaylib was a good album

i dunno jay dee made harder hitting beats easily, but madlibs creativity is what gets me to pick him

i guess "production most on point" id hav eto say dilla

but ill pick madlib over dilla in general when it comes to a real project..not a mixtape or somethin

I love Dooms beats, I like how they sound kinda sloppy, and I really like how he chops the samples. I always throw on disk 2 of the Special Herbs Box Set when I just need some dope background music.

Dilla is hella tight as well. Donuts stays in regular rotation, and some of the shit he did on there is amazing! I think technically Donuts is a perfect album, 10/10. Im gonna make a seperate post about Donuts soon with some really deep info about that album.

I gotta say that Madlib is the dopest outta the three though. Like Gas One said, Madlib can flip so many different styles and has made so many near classic albums; Madvillain, Dudley Perkin's Expressions, shades of Blue and all his Jazz albums plus the work hes done on all the Stones Throw compilations and MED's/Roc C/Oh No's albums etc...

I would say of the three, Madlib probably the more talented musician...Dilla made more consistent and bangin hip hop beats though, DOOM is unique, talented, but his production is real personal. I love Dillas work...but Madlib has accomplished alot, gotta give it up to the guy who gave us Madvillainy and Quasimoto.

Check out this post originally from okayplayer , it has a lot of crazy shjit about donuts, it will make you want to listen to it again...

classic..and not because he just passed...
that shit is the bible for real producer heads....

if you pay attention to his chops and subliminals in the songs, not only was this nigga a genius but he knew he was dying...

"dont cry" .. check the opening sample" i gonna show how my voice has made a beautiful baby girl..." his 2 daughters...

"stop"..yer gonna need me one day....oh yer gonna want me back in your heart.......self explanitory

"people" peep how he makes the track "breathe".kinda reminds you of being hooked up to a dialisis machine..which he was.... and it was for his "people" i guess that could mean his friends and fam....

"donuts intro/outro" this is bugged out cuz he sample a song for this joint called " when i die"....then he dies.....

"last donut of the night" THIS BY FAR KILLS ANY KANYE BEAT... peep what the voice samples says at the beginiing...its like his encore....... beautiful track for real....

"waves" sounds like some" white noise" speaking from the dead shit though he made before death...cant understand what the sample is saying but its very eerie..

"lightworks" any cat who says dilla aint in the top 3 of hip hop producers is in denial.. peep the craftsmenship of how he pieced the samples to gether and made the voice say"light up a spliff" when it clearly didnt say that in the beginning ..GENIUS

"airworks" luther vandross flipped....sounds like a cry of pain....GENIUS

"HI"/"BYE" HIS BEGINNING AND END...HE KNEW HE WAS DYING..

"stepson of the clapper" really listen hard to how he peiced 3 or more different peices of the song to make a masterpeice of drums...kanye knew what he was talkin bout when he said dilla is the "drum god"

"dilla says go"...its alright,,,ahh i'll get over it baby...." being dead? or maybe the sickness it self

by far one of my favorites still on this joint is...

"the diff'rence" -he KILLED THAT PIANO SAMPLE...CHOPPED 3 OR 4 DIFFERENT SECTIONS AND PUT THEM TO GETHER..MAKING ONE OF THE ILLEST CHORD PROGRESSIONS IN A LOOONG TIME....SOUNDS LIKE SOME JOHN LENNON SHIT...."..the fruit maaaan"

"workinonit" masterpeice..great way to start the album...for those who dont know..this beat was givin to black thought and dice raw of the roots as a demo but nothing came of it....i have the joint if heads want it...w/ vocals

"GOBSTOPPER" one of his favorite candies...
this joint goes perfect with the los angeles sunset when you look up in the city and see the planes leaving and arriving at l.a.x...

thus the planes in the mural inside the jacket of donuts....

i guess they had a good view of the skyline...

thus gobstopper....

the Goat...premo aint chopped as tedious as jay ever..

i could go on about this album and all of jay's work..... this cats was a mastermind in the studio b...

LOWD......r.i.p. Jay DILLA..
"let's gooooooo!!"
