YES BECUZ MOST OF THE TIME MIXTAPES DONT HAVE THE BEST QUALITY, DJ TALK OVER THE SONG, THE SONGS MIX INTO EACH OTHER OR THEY LEAVE OFF A VERSE OR TWO.........

AND IF A MIXTAPE DOESNT DO ONE OR MORE OF THOSE THINGS THEN IT ISNT REALLY A MIXTAPE.........

i will always buy the OG. Some of the same reasons as above, the quality is not as good on mixtapes and I want the FULL song aswell as other traxs from the artist....

in addition to me there is nothing better than the OG and I also realize that the artist may not get paid 4 this track being on the mixtape. Personally Id rather see compilations over mixtapes....

i think this "mixtape" shit is ridiculous. i mean i could put out these cds if i wanted to steal all the hot shit from each artist. i have every song on these fuckin "mixtapes." people makin money off other people's shit, i dont give a fuck how you arrange the songs

Mixtapes are PROMOTION, period. The artist need them! Prior to the mixtape scene's explosion out here we had compilations...which is the exact same shit. The funny part is that the artists embrace them, cause they understand this, I get damn near ALL my music from the artist themselves....(and I'm pretty sure Backside does too) Ive been a Dj for 6years, since I was 15, I have promoted the crap out of many bay artists that in total honesty...need it! We Sometimes overlook the fact that all of us on this site and other ones (like Raptalk) are a very very small portion of consumers. My mixtapes (which I will send 2 anyone 4 free if they ask) are mainstream driven and have a hint of bay. It is so that the average music goer can make the transition more easily and think that the artist is in the same caliber as T.i or whomever. And it also helps my distribution. Actual djing is a skill, so folks like Backside and myself take pride in our creations. And at the end of the day, mixtapes, just like compilations keep artists relavent...name 1 artist that doesnt do their own mixtapes? They all do! The New Bay blew up in help with this...ask Balance, he just spoke on this on Distortion 2 Static, u need to think long term. Ur 3-8 come up of retail cds is very short term money, but when u have a collective of numerous promotion and are mixtapes u gain fans that u may not have first appealed to or would have had. U have to think outside the box and think of the greater good, and like I said b4 most of these artists understand this...4 some reason everybody in the outside looking in doesnt get it @ all. Just my 2 cents...
I actually am having a panel dedicated to this topic at the Bay Area's biggest industry function.... the BAY AREA RAP SUMMIT SUNDAY APRIL 17,2K5. We need 2 make power moves to better our situation, cause just in case that it goes down real major out here in the bay, we are lightweight as shit. 05 needs to be a turning point, lets step our game up.
